As a Senior Reliability Engineer you'll be the focal point of the reliability of military and commercial satellites, custom RF systems and advanced microwave products. You will interface with program managers, design engineers and customers to design in reliability during all phases of a product's lifecycle. This position carries a lot of responsibility, but also a lot of avenues for personal growth and achievement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years Reliability Engineering experience, preferably in space, aerospace or satcom industry

  • Familiar with reliability requirements for military space environments, including MIL-PRF-38535, MIL-PRF-38534, MIL-PRF-19500, MIL-PRF-55342 and MIL-PRF-55681

  • Familiar with ASQ CRE body of knowledge

  • Familiarity with FMEA, FMECA and FMES

  • General knowledge of RF, power, and digital electronics; and/or mechanical systems

  • Ability to lead and function in a fast-paced, highly-visible business area. (managing external customer expectations and information needs of ViaSat executives)

  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills (ability to influence, lead and coach teams)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or allied sciences, Master's Degree preferred.

  • US citizenship is required.

Preferences

  • Experience in space mission assurance

  • Ability to pass a background check necessary for a security clearance

  • Familiarity with Physics of Failure practice and theory

  • Familiarity with reliability prediction methods such as 217FN2, Telcordia SR-332 and 217Plus

  • Familiarity with software tools for reliability analysis and prediction

  • Familiarity with reliability testing and Failure Analysis methods

  • Reliability Block Diagram analysis (RBD) of complex systems

Job Responsibilities A Network Reliability Engineer is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of Viasat's enterprise networks, with a focus on reliability. This role works to understand and prevent outages and degradation of services globally across the enterprise. The team will work with internal customers and teams, product owners, external vendors, carriers, and ISPs. The team is accountable for engineering, configuration, security, availability, and performance of current and newly developing enterprise networks supporting corporate, lab, internet, data center, cloud, and extranet connectivity. Team members will also work to identify and create automation solutions for repetitive tasks, configuration consistency, monitoring, testing, performance baselining, benchmarking, and continuous improvement to streamline processes and gather metrics. Our ideal candidate is able to work autonomously, possesses strong analytical, time management, and communication skills, and a desire to challenge themselves, learn, and continually improve by being passionate about documentation and sharing their knowledge with others. A successful track record of operating large enterprise networks and developing secure scalable solutions is a requirement, along with the drive and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Include: * Manage the global enterprise backbone, including: traffic engineering, capacity planning, path diversity, quality of service (QoS) * Support a 24x7 global high availability enterprise network that spans across numerous sites, including private and public clouds, by participating in an on-call rotation * Design, document, deploy, and support new global and hybrid enterprise network architectures * Create network diagrams, technical specifications, and standard operating procedures * Define, develop, and own backend services such as monitoring, management, and alerting, for a complex and rapidly expanding enterprise network * Collaborate within, and across, agile teams to diagnose and remediate challenges * Design, deploy, and be accountable for innovative solutions agile teams require to meet their own product deliverables * Instrument performance analysis and develop optimization solutions using dashboards, metrics, and KPIs for others to consume * Build awareness and self-service of the enterprise network status, health, and performance for customers to consume * Recognize, prioritize, and execute tasks in a dynamic and high-pressure environment * Automate as much as possible using frameworks, code, and APIs Requirements * 5+ years operating and managing global enterprise networks * Experience in a multi-vendor environment * Advanced knowledge of: Network routing, traffic engineering, QoS, telemetry, and segmentation * Working knowledge of: Physical layer concepts and technologies * Working knowledge of: Peering and transit interconnection relationships * Advanced knowledge of: Cloud technologies and architectures * Understanding of underlay/overlay networking concepts * Robust Troubleshooting skills to address complex problems and develop innovative solutions * Experience with automation frameworks and the creation of workflows to automate network tasks * Experience using and deploying open source tools * Experience writing code using a formal programming language in a multi-developer environment * Comfortable working with Linux, REST APIs, SNMP, visualization tools, and time-series data * Experience designing and managing scalable hybrid cloud networks Preferences * Advanced level certification in a network discipline (CCIE, JNCIE, etc.) * Development of solutions to remediate problems without human intervention * Experience with Continuous Integration and source control tools such as Jenkins/Maven, Bamboo, Git, Artifactory, etc. To learn more about this site and other office locations, please click here!
