Job Summary:

The Sr. Regulatory Affairs Specialist is a critical link between FUJIFILM SonoSite's product development team and regulatory authorities. Sr. RA Specialists combine their knowledge of scientific, regulatory, and business practices to ensure FUJIFILM SonoSite is in compliance with the current regulations surrounding marketing, labeling, and legal issues in order to control the marketability of our products globally.

This position will be responsible for providing regulatory affairs leadership, as well as coordinating and executing Class II regulatory submissions to various international regulatory agencies, including FDA (510(k)), Health Canada, European Union (CE mark), TGA (Australia), New Zealand (Medsafe), ANVISA (Brazil), CFDA (China), PAL 3rd Party (Japan), and others, TBD. In this role you will work under tight timelines with the regulatory team while maintaining communication with product managers, engineers and RA management.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Evaluate proposed product modifications for Regulatory impact on a global markets, completing Regulatory Impact Assessments as needed.

  • Participate in communicating to upper management the impact of new regulatory requirements or changes to existing requirements.

  • Provide guidance to team members (RA team or Design team) on regulatory requirements (including safety/performance standards) for specific products.

  • Coordinate and prepare product submission packages for regulatory agencies (U.S. and major International markets).

  • Development strategies by conducting research on submission requirements and options.

  • Liaise with engineering project managers, distributors, subsidiaries and regulatory agencies.

  • Respond to information requests from competent authorities.

  • Stay abreast of regulatory procedures and changes in the global regulatory climate.

  • Maintain records on legislation, relations and guidelines.

  • Assist in monitoring and reporting project timelines.

  • Maintain paper and electronic regulatory files.

  • Investigate regulatory history of similar products to assess approval implications.

  • Perform tasks associated with assigned development core teams to provide regulatory guidance.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree with ~ 8 years of related experience in regulatory affairs; or a specialize RA degree with ~5 years regulatory affairs experience

  • Experience with regulatory submissions for software as a medical device

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in design validation and verification processes

  • Knowledge of Risk Management Standard ISO 14971.

  • Extensive experience with U.S. FDA and major international market regulations (Canada, EU, Brazil, Japan, Australia, etc.)

  • Regulatory Project Management skills

  • Preferred: Experience with U.S FDA Class II (electromechanical) devices

You are responsible for As a core member on product development teams, the Senior Regulatory Specialist will provide timely and valued regulatory guidance (written and / or verbal) by owning the following tasks: * Work on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of regulations and organizational objectives. * Involvement in developing, modifying and executing company regulatory policies that affect immediate operations. * Regular interaction with management and cross-functional teams to provide regulatory strategy at all stages of a products lifecycle. Key Areas of Responsibility (KARs): * Responsible for product registrations/approvals. * Keep abreast of current regulatory procedures and changes. Participates in direct interaction with regulatory agencies on defined matters. * Recommend and develop strategies and create detailed written regulatory plans for: * IDE and Clinical trials applications in accordance with MDD Annex X, ISO 14155 standard. * Traditional, abbreviated or special 510(k)s * Pre-market Approval Applications * Pre-submission applications * Worldwide product registrations * Responsible for the coordination and preparation of document packages 510(k) pre-market notification and PMA applications, technical file and design dossiers for CE marking, and worldwide product registrations. * Identify potential regulatory approvals risks based on changes in regulations, standards country specific issues or other unique characteristics of the project. * Drives improvement in regulatory aspects of the Quality System, developing processes and documenting procedures to ensure an effective Quality System. Review and recommend changes for design process and manufacturing procedures to maintain quality and regulatory compliance. * Provide audit support * Provide guidance to business unit on global compliance, such as CE Marking and product registrations, clinical evaluations in accordance with MDD Annex X, ISO 13485 and ISO 14155, Canadian CMDCAS, compliance with FDA's guidance documents etc. * Responsible for ensuring compliance with the current PCMS regulatory procedures and updating the procedures when new regulatory requirements become effective. * Advise internal stakeholders (marketing, manufacturing, R&D, etc.) regarding current/pending guidance, regulations, Agency/industry initiatives, etc. to ensure regulatory strategy is in alignment with company objectives. * May represent Philips in an international committee chartered to develop an applicable standard. * Review and approve engineering changes, advertising, promotional items and labeling for regulatory compliance. * Coordinate testing required to support regulatory submissions. * Strengthen and build clinical & regulatory capabilities. * Mentor and coach junior BU regulatory members in their development. * Maintain regulatory files and tracking databases as required. * Must ensure that training assignments remain current.
