This purpose of this position is to assist the Church History Department in its purpose to help God's children make and keep sacred covenants through the preservation of historical artifacts through work which may include, but is not limited to restoration, environmental monitoring, storage management, exhibition work, inventory tracking, cataloging, and standards implementation.
The Senior Registrar will act as an advocate for collection artifacts and ensure collections will be available for future use. Anticipated uses include research, display and loan to other institutions. Other anticipated uses may include making artwork available to Church officers or departments.
Bachelor's degree in Art History, History, Anthropology, Archeology, Museum Studies
7 years experience in registration
Experience in cataloging of new acquisitions, building housings, coordinating exhibit installation and deinstallations.
Experience overseeing (directly or indirectly) the work of others.
Experience in using pallet jacks and carts, driving box trucks, and ability to lift 40 pounds.
Be willing to become forklift certified.
Demonstrates a mature commitment to established professional practices in the areas of registration.
Demonstrates knowledge of preservation philosophy, materials, equipment, and methods and regularly shares those concepts and principles with other team members.
Experience with basic office programs as well experience working with collections managements software.
Demonstrated ability to convey complex and/or sensitive concepts and ideas effectively and professionally to others, in writing and verbally.
Must be willing and able to travel 1-2 times per year to conduct inventory work in historic homes and outbuildings.
Cataloging, housing, and photography of recent acquisitions.
Managing storage and exhibit areas, including performing inventory projects and managing the movement of art in the museum storage areas and around the Headquarters Campus.
Serving on exhibit and project teams in addition to core collection work
Preserves a record of projects, by documenting each project with thorough written reports of materials and photographs, as needed.
Able to establish the Intellectual Property status of items in the collection and convey those to museum and department staff.
May oversee the work of less experienced staff and volunteers providing training, direction, and feedback.
Facilitates appropriate access to the collection via proper circulation and loan methods.
Maintains awareness of industry best practices, seeks opportunities to implement new concepts and philosophies, and develops self professionally by participating in various development activities
