Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
In this role, works independently to manage jurisdictional inspection workload within an assigned territory. Take ownership of the territory and effectively prioritize, plan, and schedule work.
Utilize provided technology resources for maximum efficiency. Respond to customer requests and helps customers understand and mitigate risks associated with equipment breakdowns. Conduct boiler and pressure inspections in accordance with jurisdictional rules by performing thorough examinations, identifying hazardous conditions, applying appropriate codes and standards, recommending corrective action and submitting required reports.
Perform risk evaluations, identify key objects, evaluate exposures and controls, develop meaningful loss estimates, and communicate findings to business partners. Apply advanced critical thinking to determine adequacy of controls preventing equipment breakdown and overall insurability. Investigate claims as requested by the claim department.
Evaluate elements of the claim, extent of damage, invoice review, and cause of loss. Identify external factors that may have contributed to the loss, and opportunities for subrogation. Effectively communicate, document, and report findings.
May act as the Account Manager role for a designated local account, agent, or broker. Manage the relationship to ensure service needs are met. Participate in marketing calls, conduct presentations to sell risk control and its services.
Assist in the development and delivery of training seminars. Collaborate and mentor internal and external partners and conduct co-surveys to further develop and strengthen staff and relationships. When possible, serve on jurisdictional Boiler Boards. Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Skills Demonstrates a working knowledge understanding of mechanical and electrical principles especially as they relate to actions necessary to prevent equipment breakdowns. Possesses a strong knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance practices.
Demonstrates specific engineering/technical skills necessary to achieve established business goals. Has mastered Risk Control computer systems applications relevant for their area. Has a solid understanding of equipment breakdown insurance.

Reports to Boiler and Machinery Field Manager. Conduct boiler and pressure vessel inspections in accordance with jurisdictional rules by performing thorough examinations, identifying hazardous conditions, applying appropriate codes and standards, and recommending corrective actions.
Work cooperatively with Boiler and Machinery underwriting and claim groups, in support of helping them make informed decisions to maximize profit and growth. Performs boiler and pressure vessel inspections, works on complex risks, understands and evaluates Boiler and Machinery coverage, and generally has extensive Boiler and Machinery experience. May assume marketing and account management responsibilities.
Capable of providing risk evaluations and claim investigations in more complex accounts. This role does not manage others, but does mentor others. This job works under Moderate Supervision: Incumbent performs standard and routine assignments independently to conclusion; unusual problems which may require exceptions to procedures or processes are referred to the supervisor.
Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
College Degree in Technical discipline (i.e., electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, Associates in welding) preferred.

B&M Risk Control personnel should be certain that proper accident prevention and hygiene controls are in place for all tasks and should not expose themselves to:
Unguarded elevations and unsecured ladders, or non-standard or unsafe means of ascent or descent.
Confined spaces that have not been verified as having sufficient oxygen, and verified are free of any toxins above OSHA action levels.
Confined spaces that contain explosive materials
Asbestos, or any other toxic materials
Exposed electrical conductors
Boilers, pressure vessels and machinery that has not been properly locked out and tagged out to a condition of zero energy of all forms.
Eye and ear hazards
Extremely hot or cold surfaces or ambient conditions. In performing the functions of the position, the employee may be required to:
Climb, balance, maneuver, at high levels and in dark places
Walk on uneven surfaces
Climb through tight openings Work in confined spaces
3 years risk control experience in the B&M insurance industry required. National Board Inservice commission required. Valid Drivers License required.
