PRIMARY FUNCTION:Works onsite with the Next-Generation Surface Search Radar (NGSSR) Prime Contractor in Chantilly, VA to assist the OEM with Radar Frequency (RF) design choices and tradeoffs to meet Navy requirements for performance, reliability and maintainability. The candidate will also provide guidance to the OEM in preparing for manufacturing the radar and preparing for Navy design reviews.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Support engineering efforts related to development, testing and analysis of Radar design and development.
Perform design review of proposed engineering changes with a focus on reliability and maintainability Develop and review existing and new software requirements definitions. Review and evaluate performance specifications and technical design review proposed design improvements, waivers, deviations and alterations. Develop and maintain software life-cycle management and maintenance documentation.
Analyze operational software systems under procurement and in service to ensure conformance with system requirements specifications, provide corrections and/or improvements that translate into detailed change proposals. Generate, analyze, evaluate, and implement Software Trouble Reports (STRs) and change proposals. Develop/update source code (for both software and firmware) and documentation to correct STRs and ECPs approved for implementation in accordance with the requirements of standards for all assigned systems.
Generate software and systems test specifications and procedures. Support verification and validation testing of new program builds for assigned systems and support. Provide configuration management support by maintaining configuration management databases.
Perform data entry functions for maintaining system configuration databases. Monitor system production (both initial and modifications); analyze and recommend action on manufacturing and production problems, review impact of production engineering changes, waivers and deviations on procurement. Provide services for the programming and delivery or tactical computer programs in electronic media and of programmable read only memory (PROM) devices.
Provide oversight of design, fabrication, and acceptance testing for the customer in the design and production plant. Effectively participate in IPDR and ICDR package reviews on site to ensure that the Navy's needs are met.
QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with the setup of radar systems.
Practical experience with Air Defense/Surveillance Radar (AD/SR), Air Traffic Control (ATC) Radar or Ground Weapons Locating Radar (GWLR) operations. Practical experience with preventative maintenance processes. Experience with deployment and setup of ground-based mobile radar systems.
Experience with electrical safety procedures, hazardous material handling and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills. Personal computer skills (competent with MS Office applications). Ten (10) years' minimum relevant work experience required. Four (4) years' experience engineering involving surveillance radars preferred.
Education: MS in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or Physics or BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or Physics w/12 years' experience
Clearance Level: Secret
