U.S. Bank's Model Risk Management division is responsible for the management of enterprise-wide model risks associated with the Bank's development, deployment, and maintenance of quantitative models. This role provides project management and support to multiple analyst teams in Model Risk Management responsible for the validation of all statistical models used as part of the financial decision making process across the institution. Responsibilities include maintaining a project plan and schedule for model validation groups covering a wide variety of products or services, partnering with developers and/or external resources to manage communication and ensure efficient allocation of development and validation resources, as well as assigning tasks and communicating the plan to analysts and managers. The position will be responsible for creating and maintaining an Issue Management program for all of Model Risk Management to manage the resolution of validation findings with model owners and users, recommend management action plans, and track remediation progress. Other responsibilities will include coordination of internal and external regulatory and audit requests, development of validation procedures to enhance the effectiveness of operational controls and consistency, as well as design training programs for new analysts. This role will require superb project management and communication skills with various deliverables including presentations, written reports, and procedures.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, and 10 or more years of experience in statistical modeling OR
  • Master's or PhD degree in a quantitative field, and six or more years of experience in statistical modeling

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable regulatory rules, guidance, or supervisory letters

  • In depth knowledge of Bank products and services

  • Demonstrated independence, teamwork and leadership skills

  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, negotiation, and project management skills

  • Strong statistical modeling background based on technical training or advanced education in a quantitative field

  • Advanced knowledgeable of quantitative and qualitative risk factors, industry risks, competition risks, and risk management approaches

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including familiarity with data visualization tools

These responsibilities include, supporting daily operations and back up of the Senior Market Risk Manager on quantitative functions as outlined below. Risk Management Support * Review and understand model output and source of changes in risk levels reported in daily MSR/Pipeline VaR and related reports. Point out and discuss key risk details with the Senior Market Risk Manager. * Support testing for periodic changes in the MSR valuation model. * Build quantitative tools as needed to provide effective analysis of the market risk. Run "what-if" scenarios to evaluate risk. * Support model validations, respond to and implement recommendations. Data Integrity: * Review market data that feeds the VaR/risk models. * Ensure accurate trade capture.
