Job Description

Wyman-Gordon, located in Worcester, MA, specializes in producing Isothermal Forgings for military and commercial turbine applications using nickel-based and titanium alloys. Our facility offers full heat treating, machining, and testing on-site. This growing $200 million profit center is part of Precision Castparts Corporation (PCC), a highly successful, multi-billion dollar diversified manufacturer.

Sr. Quality Engineer

Position Overview: The Sr. Quality Engineer will ensure that Wyman-Gordon's quality systems and procedures meet government and customer requirements, and that products comply with contractual obligations. This role involves a broad range of quality-related activities including auditing, data analysis, corrective actions, process improvement/control, product certification, and export control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex Quality Engineering assignments with limited supervision, including statistical analysis (capability studies, DOE, etc.) to evaluate processes.

  • Design, implement, and continually assess quality assurance/control methods and systems.

  • Develop standards, procedures, and work instructions to guide quality processes and facilitate training.

  • Conduct training in internal auditing, mechanical inspection, and statistical techniques.

  • Maintain compliance with internal and customer requirements within the Quality Management System (QMS).

  • Conduct internal and external audits and supplier surveys to verify capability and compliance.

  • Coordinate and participate in material review activities to determine nonconforming product dispositions and corrective actions.

  • Develop, generate, and analyze reports and returned products to identify trends and drive corrective action/quality improvements.

  • Host customer and third-party audits.

  • Perform auditing functions within Wyman-Gordon and with external suppliers.

  • Manage the issuance of all internal procedures.

  • Support investigations of atypical events and implement resulting corrective or preventive actions.

Education and Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience in a quality engineering role.

  • B.S./B.A. in an engineering discipline preferred or equivalent work experience.

  • Manufacturing experience highly preferred.

  • Training as an ISO 9001 or related standard Lead Auditor preferred (e.g., AS9100, ISO 17025, IATF 16949).

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred.

  • Experience in a highly regulated environment (e.g., Aerospace, Medical).

  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership and work effectively across functional boundaries.

  • Knowledge and experience in Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Control Plans, Systemic Problem-Solving Skills, Poka-Yoke Development and Implementation, Blueprint and Specification Interpretation, Customer specifications and requirements, Calibration requirements.

  • Excellent communication skills.

Special Skills and Physical Requirements:

  • Proficient in understanding technical drawings and accompanying documentation.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to convey technical and conceptual material to individuals at all levels within customer organizations and Wyman-Gordon.

  • Detail-oriented.
