Senior Quality Engineer, Assembly & Inspection Services

Nidec Press & Automation has an immediate opening for a Senior Quality Engineer, Assembly & Inspection Services at our Minster, Ohio facility. The Senior QE's primary function will be identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, formulating preventative and corrective actions, and working to implement those actions in order to improve overall product quality. This individual will collect and analyze manufacturing quality data to ensure consistency is upheld in assembly manufacturing processes, recommend necessary updates/improvements in process methods, fixtures, and part/package design as a result of documented and controlled testing on assembly techniques and component reliability. The Senior QE will provide technical guidance to the inspection areas that support manufacturing within the OEM and Service sides of the business, this includes running the company's two CMM machines. Will serve as the lead interpreter of collected data and work with appropriate parties to approve conforming material.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Promote quality performance throughout the assembly operation through process compliance and continuous improvement efforts

  • Bring together staff of different disciplines and lead the group to create and implement comprehensive quality processes and procedures

  • Manage and maintain assembly's quality inspection and product release programs for incoming and in-process materials, components and finished goods

  • Uphold the ISO9001:2015 processes and lead the activity to maintain certification for assembly operations

  • Effectively interact with sales, operations and technical teams to help preserve efficient production and help introduce new products

  • Work with purchasing and incoming receiving staff to establish quality requirements and record keeping for external suppliers, and perform supplier audits for all suppliers that supply product to the assembly department

  • Ensure production personnel are properly trained to inspection procedures and that these procedures are fully understood, effectively carried out and embraced

  • Analyze quality inspection data to identify process and part design improvements

  • Formulate, manage and report on the quality related goals and objectives for assembly

  • Maintain awareness of and contribute to the business objectives and company profitability targets

  • Communicate with customers' regarding the development of quality processes, execution of corrective actions and compliance to customers' specifications

  • Willingness to travel as required

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in an applied science or engineering field OR the equivalent of work experience in a similar environment required (10+ years quality experience and ASQ certification as a Quality Engineer and/or Manager required in lieu of a degree)

  • 7+ years prior experience in Quality Assurance in a manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated experience working with suppliers

  • Strong knowledge of quality engineering core tools and manufacturing processes including PFMEA, 8-D, six sigma, lean principles & manufacturing specifications

  • Must be able to apply root cause problem solving techniques

  • Must understand the art of handling customer inquiries, concerns and complaints in a professional and tactful manner

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

  • Capable of managing multiple assignments

  • Passion for leading change through continuous improvement

  • Must be able to read/interpret/apply GD&T methodologies

  • Working knowledge of current CMM technology (Zeiss) a plus

  • Six Sigma certification a plus

  • MiniTab experience a plus
