Job Description


POSITION: Quality Engineer

REPORTS TO: Quality Manager

QUALIFICATIONS: We prefer an individual with a good understanding of statistics, problem solving, manufacturing processes, and computers, 4 year degree or related experience, and good written/verbal skills.


  • Ensure customer satisfaction through quick follow up to problems/ customer concerns, good root cause analysis, & complete feedback.

  • Coordinate special build events.

  • Assist in IATF 16949/ISO 14001 maintenance.

  • Thoroughly evaluate all customer returns and determine root causes.

  • Communicate build concerns to work areas.

  • Publish Quality Alerts as required.

  • Monitor PRR System for customer problems (coordinate responses with QA Manager) (assigned quality engineer).

  • Coordinate seat replacement and pickup requirements.

  • Communicate daily with customers (phone or visit).

  • Follow up to ensure that standard work instructions, control plans & process FMEA address all customer build concerns.

  • Continuously review process to look for process improvement activities.

  • Review Scrap data to evaluate necessary corrective action.

  • Perform process audits and take appropriate corrective action / follow up.

  • Facilitate use of Statistical Process Control on manufacturing floor. Monitor Quality Gate activities.

  • Assure that quality documentation on production floor is appropriate, meet requirements set forth on control plan, part prints and IATF 16949/ISO 14001.

  • Conduct and direct MSA activities on new gauges or precision equipment.

  • Assure that inspectors have the appropriate tools to perform their job.

  • Review supporting quality documentation to ensure it is filled out completely and correctly.

  • Assist Quality Supervisors with managing Quality Assurance hourly employees both laboratory and inspectors.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Quality Engineers assigned to Shift coverage.


  • Supervisor quality techs as needed.

Independently manages entire projects for a work area and executes/implements quality systems primarily on a NPI. Influences, coaches and review work of others. Requires limited supervision and advanced knowledge of engineering/quality/product line. What you will Do Essential Responsibilities: * Support GE Appliances dishwasher improve the quality initiatives. * Lead APQP including responsible for the PPAP of in-house equipment and parts primarily associated with a NPI without significant direction. * Balance the communication between product design and manufacturing to ensure all issues get addressed with minimal surprises to achieve world class manufacturing goals. * Responsible for the NPI iP checklists and completing/reporting out on Advanced Quality Engineering (AQE) responsible items prior to the reviews. * AQE support for total cost take out and run the plant projects. Collaborate with CIB chair for quality improvement and project execution. * Drive COQ improvement: scrap, factory yield, concessions, damage and service calls. * Work cross-functionally with Design, Quality, Manufacturing, LEAN, marketing, EHS, service, etc. teams * Develop and implement quality test plans for the factory to execute ensuring sustained control of Critical to Quality and Critical Process features. * Project-manage the scoping, definition and implementation of quality improvement for strategic and operational programs. * Provide technical leadership & in-depth expertise to investigate, initiate and drive the development, procurement and implementation of equipment & processes for manufacturing. * Own the APQP process to plan, specify, procure, certify and implement into production high quality, cost effective, right-sized manufacturing processes including: fixtures, line side gauging, go/no-go, measurement plans, and equipment. * Must work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment with both salaried and hourly personnel to meet the needs of the operators, the program and the business. * Interfacing with team leaders to develop job instruction and define what is critical. Define the jobs through standard work and job instructions. * Ensure all process involvement meets or exceeds ISO, UL, and GEA standards * Develop and implement all technical documentation including the quality control plan required for a ISO certified plant (MCP's, MCI's, FRM's, etc.) * Lead cross-functional PFMEA's to understand the risks and mitigate accordingly early in the advanced planning stage of an NPI * Selmer, TN Monogram refrigeration will be where 80% of the focus will be over the next 12months with the product design taking place in Louisville. * Louisville based with approx. 40% domestic and minimal international travel required. #LI-CC1 What you need to Succeed Qualifications/Requirements: * Leadership and effective communication experience in the definition, design, implementation and troubleshooting of manufacturing processes. * Experience with manufacturing equipment and processes. * Excellent project tracking and detailed planning skills required. * Self-starter and influencer – metric driven and willing to work with cross-functional teams and hourly workforce. * Technical Degree (or equivalent experience.) * Experience in manufacturing plant environment. * Computer literate and highly skilled in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. * Influencer and team player – drive quality metrics but willing to look at the bigger picture. * Good communicator – data driven Desired Characteristics: * Experienced using, programming, and interpreting CMM/3D scanning/metrology systems. * Experience interpreting data to solve manufacturing problems. * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred. * Significant experience in implementing Lean process improvements in high volume manufacturing operations. * Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification proficient with Minitab * Experience in metrology / measurement systems. * Proficient with understanding both coordinate and geometric GD&T drawings GE Appliances is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
