Overview

As a Senior Project Manager, you will manage complex projects from pursuit through construction to ensure project personnel and production schedule is in compliance with Owner agreements and Company standards.

What you will be doing

  • Manages all aspects of the project, including construction, budget and cash management for a single assigned project to ensure compliance with the project contract and owner needs.

  • Develops and manages the project schedule, pay estimates, project procedures, and equipment resources needed to complete accurate and timely project production.

  • Develops and manages the project organizational chart and staffing assignments for each phase of production, ensuring the accurate and timely completion of project objectives.

  • Provides technical insight to project pursuits and participates in bid interviews, as necessary. Assesses the initial project contract and works with owner to resolve specification, contract conflict and scheduling issues.

  • Engages with all project stakeholders proactively, including managing partners, local landowners, business owners and regulatory bodies that will have influence over project success.

  • Perform additional assignments per management's direction.

  • Coordinates with construction management team to identify project risk and negotiate change orders with owner to ensure efficient and effective project production.

  • Presents monthly project reports to Flatiron Executive leadership.

  • Supports and promotes project safety by ensuring compliance with the project safety program, Flatiron safety procedures and owner safety policies. Reviews weekly safety reports and participates in monthly safety review meetings with project personnel.

  • Reviews and approves staffing and equipment needs for efficient and effective project production.

  • Negotiates dispute resolutions with the project owner, engaging internal legal counsel where necessary.

  • Provides input on equipment procurement methods and contracts to ensure efficient and effective project production.

  • Leads project closeout procedures, finalizing contract paperwork, obtaining retainages and working with management to resolve any project claims. Leads project debrief cycle to review all aspects of project work and completion.

  • Maintains knowledge of Company's values and strategic plan.

What we are looking for

  • 15+ years' experience in construction project management required.

  • 10 + years' experience in managing personnel required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field a plus.

  • Proven experience in bid-build, CMCG, design build and other alternative delivery/negotiated contract projects required.

  • Previous expereince working on rail/transit projects strongly preferred.

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Strong interpersonal skills proven to engage and retain positive working relationships.

  • Strong proven skill to identify, track and manage project risk.

  • Proven ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple departments and direct reports to retain focus on one project completion goal and timeline.

  • Proven ability to identify growth opportunities for project personnel and developed to coach and mentor project personnel.

  • Proven ability to delegate task driven responsibilities to project personnel.

  • Proven knowledge and ability to analyze and interpret financial documentation to identify and mitigate project risk.

  • Advanced and proven interpersonal skills with internal and external contacts.

  • Effective delegation skills to drive efficient, accurate and profitable project completion.

  • Strong ability to appropriately recover funds from claim and dispute resolution.

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in managing multiple departments and direct reports to retain focus on one project completion goal and timeline.

  • Strong, inherent ability and drive to negotiate terms of agreement for project work, budget and fund recovery in the project's best interest.

  • Strong internal branding and sales knowledge to constantly promote yourself and the Company brand.

Does making a direct impact on urban flood mitigation and control excite you? If so, you are encouraged to apply to the City's Senior Stormwater Project Manager position in our Department of Project Implementation (DPI). The Senior Stormwater Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the design and construction of high complexity capital infrastructure projects. The project manager will manage municipal infrastructure projects that may include flood mitigation, stormwater management, water quality improvements, and sanitary and combined sewer infrastructure, roadway improvements, transit projects, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, and parks and recreation facilities. The employee will be part of the Flood Mitigation Program team. The program team is comprised of staff from the Department of Project Implementation and from Transportation &amp; Environmental Services Department. The flood mitigation program consists of storm sewer capacity and spot improvement projects; stream, channel, and infrastructure maintenance; grant and technical assistance programs; public communication and early warning systems. The program team identifies, prioritizes, scopes, and delivers multiple high-profile projects needed to address critical capacity issues. The Senior Stormwater Project Manager is responsible for leading technical and support teams, comprised of internal staff and external contractors to deliver capital projects to the stated objectives. As stewards of Capital funds, the team is expected to deliver projects to a standard worthy of that public trust. The candidate must be able to demonstrate relevant design and project management experience on capital and community infrastructure projects.</p><p>The Opportunity</p><ul><li><p>Delivers capital projects, through application of project management best practices and of City procedures to achieve project objectives;</p></li><li><p>Manages design project teams consisting of consultants, City planning, design, and permitting staff, regulatory agencies, project sponsors, and City support staff to achieve successful project delivery;</p></li><li><p>Manages construction project teams, verifying contract compliance and delivery of projects to City expectations;</p></li><li><p>Provides stewardship of Capital funds through appropriate budget development, drafting of effective procurement documents, disciplined management of contractors, and adherence to contract and regulatory requirements;</p></li><li><p>Manages stakeholders, engages the community, and presents information regarding capital improvement projects to residents, outside agencies, senior staff, and City officials;</p></li><li><p>Manages projects within the scope, schedule, and budget baseline. Monitors project progress, mitigates risk, and manages changes from baseline;</p></li><li><p>Maintains technical knowledge in design of municipal infrastructure projects. Remains abreast of advancements and standards in project delivery, design plan development, regulatory requirements, technology-support and design-authoring tools, and construction and material requirements;</p></li><li><p>Seeks stakeholder input, gains consensus, and makes decisions in the best interest of the City and its residents;</p></li><li><p>Coaches and trains junior project managers. Meets certification requirements and continually works to improve project management skills and knowledge;</p></li><li><p>Engages internal and external subject matter experts to address project challenges with appropriate level of expertise.</p></li><li><p>Approaches work with a critical eye, challenging accepted practices, seeking new approaches and continuous improvement; and</p></li><li><p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p></li></ul><p>About the Department</p><p>The Department of Project Implementation (DPI) implements capital infrastructure projects including intersection improvements, storm water and water quality improvements, sanitary sewer improvements, flood mitigation, and park improvements. DPI staff promote excellence in project management and sound stewardship of public trust. The Department is currently managing 63 active infrastructure projects with a total capital improvement program value of approximately $1 billion. The Department coordinates and plans complex, multi-departmental projects such as the Waterfront Small Area Plan Implementation and the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station. DPI is dedicated to continuous improvement and industry best practices and is committed to the continued professional development of staff members. Minimum &amp; Additional Requirements</p><p>To minimally qualify for the position all applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Landscape Architecture; ten (10) years of related experience in a position as a Professional Engineer or Landscape Architect, five (5) years as a project manager; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
