Full-time position available with the Public Works Department, Multimodal Division located at 5310 Municipal Ave

Salary Range: $5,794-$8,833/month

Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Develops project proposals and project execution plans, including determining objectives, establishing work plans, and determining time frames, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements and allotment to more complex phases of project management.

  • Assembles, manage time commitments, and direct activities of project delivery teams including members from multiple department divisions.

  • Maintain external citizen and interdepartmental relationships to ensure collaborative project delivery and stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Provide periodic updates regarding status of projects to senior management, project stakeholders, and appointed/elected officials.

  • Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, or cost tracking reports.

  • Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and resolve matters with stakeholders for all levels and phases of projects.

  • Escalates issues when necessary.

  • Engage operations, subject matter experts and licensed professionals as appropriate to ensure projects meet professional standards, budgetary and regulatory requirements.

  • Works with contract administrators and other internal staff in the solicitation, evaluation, award, and administration of contracts of various types.

  • Contracts with and coordinates project activities of external consultants and interdepartmental work teams for other more complex projects.

  • Manages project resources appropriately for more complex, large-scale projects and demonstrates the ability to account for resources allocated to assigned projects.

  • Plans and supervises training programs for less experienced staff in project management systems and procedures.

  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, project management, construction management, engineering technology, construction engineering technology, engineering, city planning, landscape architecture, or architecture and 6 years professional experience in project management or project management related work. OR an accredited Master's degree in business administration, public administration, project management, construction management, engineering technology, construction engineering technology, engineering, city planning, landscape architecture, or architecture and 4 years professional experience in project management or project management related work. OR a certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and 6 years as a PMP working in project management or project management related work. Must pass a preemployment drug screen. Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Will be required to obtain a Missouri driver's license within nine (9) months. Preference given to candidates with an accredited Electrical Engineering degree, or experience related to managing electrical or closely related projects.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
