Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is a unique organization that develops and operates Lifestyle Boutique Hotels & Restaurants and is looking for a quality individual to join the Architecture & Development Team in the San Francisco Office. This position requires someone who has excellent project management skills, a strong knowledge of the architectural & design documentation process, highly capable of reading, comprehending and dissecting all levels of architectural drawings sets and upholding Brand

Building Standards. Seeking an individual with a strong work ethic, exuding a professional attitude and able to work in a team setting surrounded by varying personalities.


  • Must have a minimum of 10 year's architectural or interior design experience involving full-service hospitality projects

  • A degree in interior design or architecture is required

  • Proficient in Bluebeam, AutoCad, & Microsoft Office

  • Adept in Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat


This is a role for an individual that is highly capable of handling multiple projects, timelines, personalities

(internally and externally), is very organized and process oriented. This is a client facing role that requires

a professional, proficient technically, but can "wear many hats" and deal with complex issues, people

and situations empathetically, strategically and with a firm hand.

Development & Planning

  • Work with the Sr. Director of Architecture & Development (SDAD) on early plan and project reviews & comments to communicate the building / site feasibility of the project to the Kimpton Development/Deal Lead, Investment Analysts and external clients.

  • Site visits for existing buildings may be required to assess the building condition to provide a Draft Project Scope or Property Improvement Plan (PIP) for the SDAD's review.

  • Provide written project updates on the Project Status Reports, managed by the SDAD.

Project Management & Technical Support

  • As the Kimpton point of contact (POC) during the design/pre-construction phases of a project. the PM of A&D will be responsible for managing the flow of information and documentation between the owner/developer (O/D), external project team and Kimpton internal teams.

  • Present and discuss project plans with internal Kimpton teams (hotel and restaurant) and other internal Kimpton members to help them understand the plans and program and get their buy-in.

  • Assist the SDAD, represent Kimpton/IHG in all phases of the project from initial inquiry through opening. Participate on project calls with O/D and project team. Technical resource for O/D.

  • Attend in person meetings for project Kick-offs, project milestones and value engineering sessions with the O/D and project team to ensure plans are coordinated and quality construction documents are produced while still maintaining Brand Standards. Occasional site visits required during key milestones/phases for overall Quality Control.

  • Attend Model Room Reviews to ensure room product has been constructed according to the design plans and the quality of construction and execution of the design meets with Brand Standards.

  • Ensure the SDAD is always kept current on project status, schedules and critical items, throughout the project life cycle.

Build Standards

  • Assist the SDAD with the Kimpton Brand Standards and document template updates. A strong understanding of the Kimpton Build Standards will be necessary to implement the responsibilities of this position.

  • Standards updates will require collaboration with internal Kimpton teams, as well as, management of external consultants.


  • The ideal candidate studied architecture or interior design and worked at an interior design or architectural firm(s) focused on hospitality (Architectural License is not required)

  • Highly competent at reading, critiquing and "scrubbing" architectural and design drawings

  • Must have a knack for space planning and a sharp eye for details (finding the mistakes)

  • Strong project management skills, especially in the design and documentation process

  • Adept at prioritizing tasks and skilled at multi-tasking to meet goals and deadlines

  • Flexible, able to switch quickly from one project to another as priorities change

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be a confident problem solver

Management * Defines, monitors and maintains control of the scope of work and services for the project including project schedule and work plan. * Collaborates with the Project Principal to prepare and negotiate client and consultant proposals, fees, schedules, and contracts. * Primary coordinator of all communication between the client and Perkins + Will, (including Managing Principal, Design Principal, and Technical Principal) insuring timely resolution of client concerns and management of business issues including contracts and additional services.
