Reports to: Deputy Director, Technical Advising, U.S. Public Health Accompaniment Unit

Location: Montgomery, Alabama, Atlanta, GA or regional preferred; remote (US) possible

Position Type: Full-time, temporary

Project Overview

Leveraging PIH's experience and lessons learned from our COVID contact tracing collaboration with the state of Massachusetts, and our 30 years of global work in emergency epidemic response and health systems strengthening, PIH accompanies U.S. states, cities and community partners in building more equitable and effective public health responses to COVID-19 in the US.

The U.S. Public Health Accompaniment Unit team works to accompany public sector and community partners on the frontlines of the public health response to COVID-19, to address this acute-on-chronic public health crisis, by providing technical assistance and knowledge sharing platforms to accelerate implementation of effective, equitable COVID-19 responses. Our approach to providing technical assistance to different public sector and community partners in the United States includes providing expertise and advice on design and implementation, incorporating an equity lens into execution, and creating a community of partners across the US to share best practices and challenges in order to fortify efforts amidst the national response to COVID-19.

Position Overview

The Senior Project Lead will be responsible for leading PIH's technical advising and implementation accompaniment efforts in Montgomery, Alabama. The Senior Project Lead will serve as the primary liaison with PIH's partners (e.g. Mayor's Office and community-based organizations) in the development of effective equitable public health responses to COVID-19, including community health worker programs, vaccine outreach efforts, and other associated areas of work.


  • Develop and implement PIH's technical advising support for the City of Montgomery, with potential expansion to greater Alabama, on COVID-19 response and health systems strengthening

  • Provide strategic leadership, administrative and managerial oversight and monitoring of ongoing workstreams and priority initiatives identified together with the Mayor's Office and local community-based partners; workstreams may include: community-based workforce development and management; technology and data integration; health literacy, care resource coordination; homelessness response, communications & community engagement; response governance and coordination

  • Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders in relevant government agencies, and with other implementing and technical partners and manage communication channels to ensure continuity and transparency across stakeholders

  • Collaborates with and provide external reporting to funders and other external partners

  • Serve as spokesperson for U.S. Public Health Accompaniment Unit in both internal and external exchanges

  • Interface with key stakeholders across all partnerships to ensure alignment with project objectives and budget; lead meetings among the project partners and stakeholders

  • Continually identify new opportunities together with the Mayor's Office, Alabama Department of Health, and community partners for PIH to add value and maximize impact with our advising support

  • Manage recruitment and onboarding of project staff as needed

  • Support fundraising efforts in site and contribute to site project budget management

  • Evaluate project performance using appropriate KPIs and project metrics

  • Contribute learnings and insights from project site to broader US Public Health Accompaniment Unit resource library and learning collaborative

  • Provide regular reports on program and work progress to PIH leadership team, and liaise across other PIH USPHAU teams

  • Supervise the implementation team throughout all project phases

  • Oversee the development of materials related to training of project staff and support training implementation

  • Oversee project management plan and approve project documents to support implementation

  • Oversee project deliverables, including reports and other materials


  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in relevant fields related to public health desirable

  • 8-10 years of experience in public health program development and implementation, preferably with an emphasis on community health

  • Proven experience crafting and executing strategy for innovative initiatives

  • Experience with community-based care delivery, community organizing, or high-level health program management preferred

  • Familiarity with community health worker programs and/or workforce development strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with U.S. public health systems preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing and prioritizing a large number of projects simultaneously in a complex and fast-paced organization and setting

  • Excellent strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with staff and leadership across a diverse range of departments and organizations

  • Keen understanding of working within the public sector

  • Prior budget management and grant reporting experience

  • Experience managing projects that involve multiple stakeholders

  • Experience supervising teams in complex, decentralized environments

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends

  • Experience in data synthesis or technology integration into public health programming a plus

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and health equity

Day to Day: * Maintain ClubCorp service standards as outlined in the FB Service training program at high standards. * Prepare set-up appropriately at start of shift (i.e., put bottles out, set up garnish tray, check and stock juices, stock glassware, fill ice bin). * Consistently check bar area for cleanliness and ensure that all necessary items are in place. * Ensure that all liquor items are stocked and ready to use. Responsible for liquor control and accurate pouring of product. * Possess clear knowledge of all various liquors, beer, and wines available at the Club. * Assist with the service of food and beverage to the Members and guests at the bar, adhering to the ClubCorp standards of service. * Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the a la carte menu, including daily features and specials that may not be available directly on the menu. * Accurately execute Member/guest orders and requests in a timely fashion. * Know Members names and greet them promptly in a manner to provide a warm welcome and making them feel at home. * Ensure daily assignments and side work is complete in respective areas to meet Club standards (i.e., orderly/organized work areas, consistently sanitize work areas, refill/stock containers and supplies, etc.). * Assist fellow Employees, Members and guests to ensure delivery of the Three Steps Service without being directed. Be aware of team members and the environment and participate as a member of the team. * Notify management of Member/Guest complaints at the time they occur.
