Your Opportunity

Our Mining team is currently looking for an Senior Project Estimator based in our Chandler, AZ office.

Working within a dynamic team in our office with opportunities to travel, you will assist in developing project estimates/budgets from order of magnitude to detailed working estimates, based on the latest available costing methodology and data, and presenting the results in a work breakdown format suitable for use by our national and international clients.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the coordination of design and specifications within the context of a multidisciplinary design team

  • Work closely with the Mining Engineer/Designer and the engineering group in recommending the best use of project tools in order to achieve project objectives, troubleshoot and resolve issues with the project tools

  • Ensure the assurance of quality, consistency and integrity of all deliverables

  • Assist with periodic field reviews of design or construction

  • Preparing drawings/documents

  • Provides preliminary drawings/sketches/notes for projects, redlines and plans for submittals

  • Performs thorough quality control of construction documents and provides design ideas and solutions

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • As the ideal candidate you possess relevant training and/or certification with a project cost estimating organization and 6-10 years' experience in a mining (underground preferred), mining construction, or heavy industrial environment.

  • You are competent with analysis, numeration, research, and the use of spreadsheet and scheduling software (specifically Hard Dollar, MS Office and Primavera).

  • You possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a fast-pace team atmosphere.

  • A high degree of problem solving, and decision-making skills are essential.

  • You have a commitment to thrive in a proactive organization where client service is second to none.

Education and Experience

Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience.

As an Estimator youwill be responsible for capturing, calculating, and compiling data in order to produce project estimates. For smaller projects, you will also prepare the full estimate. Responsibilities What will you be doing? Your organization, flexibility, extraordinary customer focus and strong communication are critical in performing duties which include, but are not limited to: * Build Project Estimates * Complete quantity takeoffs and summations of materials * Solicit trade partners, obtain bid estimates and time projections for preparing vendor proposal comparisons and estimate summary sheets * Prepare, organize, and coordinate Request for Proposal documents * Prepare, and coordinate schedules, utilizing schedule information to estimate General Contractor's and other scheduled items * Resolve all pricing options and target the appropriate price for the project * Provide assistance to data input into estimating software program(s) * Capture historical cost data and perform archive filing * Participate in plan and estimate review meetings, other project review meetings, and site investigations, as needed * Gather information from local government and private entities that may affect project (i.e. permits, hearings, etc.) * Assist in leading addendum log and documents from customers/clients * Provide direction to new estimators and engineers as they join the team * Solicit new bidders when needed, and obtain necessary documents for inclusion in future projects * Identify areas for training with estimators and interns Qualifications How do you succeed? * Minimum three year's construction operations experience, including exposure to materials management and project operations * Current driver's license * Detail orientation sufficient to organize and handle multiple project tasks * Applicable mathematical skills * Familiarity with building/estimating techniques and software: ISqFt, ICE/Bid2Win, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Bluebeam/PDF, Google Earth Education: * Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Estimating, Civil or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience Mortenson is an EOE/Affirmative Action/M/F/Veteran/Disabled employer.
