Day in the life:

  • Designs, develops, analyzes, troubleshoots and provides technical skills during research and/or product development.

  • Under the direction of the Engineer Section Head, provides technical direction to department engineers.

  • Plans and coordinates larger-scale engineering projects or several medium or small projects while acting as a technical specialist for a specific section.

  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of new developments and technology.

  • Monitors projects and recommends changes to improve operating efficiency.

Must Have: Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 4+ years of relevant experience with Bachelors Degree OR 2+ years of relevant experience with Masters Degree

For more information, visit Inthis role you will: * Designand develop new robotic instrumentation and procedural solutions pertainingto robotic enabled surgery. * Designand develop aspects of complex systems (electromechanical systems) andprojects, participating in multi-functional project teams through allphases of the product development process * Organize,plan, and execute projects through launch, commercialization, and postmarket surveillance. * Workwith surgeons, marketing and sales to define and refine design inputs,generate design concepts and prototypes independently, perform importantand timely design evaluations (such as tolerance analysis, FEA, simulateduse testing, dry labs and wet tissue labs etc.), and generatedocumentation of clinical and surgical technique observations to createmeaningful design solutions. * Leadthe development and execution of design verification and validation plansand activities, and test plan formation and execution to support globalregulatory strategy. * Conductinitial patent reviews and initiate freedom to operate activities fromconcept to launch. * Mentorentry level engineers and will collaborate with manufacturing engineeringand/or suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturability and assembly toproduce functioning prototypes and supporting production documentation. * Demonstratestrong proficiency in the application of design controls and developmentprocesses and will be responsible for all the designs from conceptdevelopment through product launch. * Beexpected to develop detailed knowledge of our product lines and variousorthopaedic pathologies and may be an active participant in sales trainingand in providing ongoing product support to the field. Qualifications * Aminimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, BiomedicalEngineering with mechanics focus, or relevant Engineering degree isrequired. An advanced engineering degree is a plus. * Aminimum of five years of professional experience in new productdevelopment or equivalent engineering function or a Master's degree with threeyears of relevant new product development or engineering experience isrequired. * Experiencewith medical devices, specifically Surgical Robotics or Orthopedics ishighly preferred. * Experiencein identifying user needs (VOC), material selection, ability to verify andvalidate design concepts, and understand design failure modes is required. * Experienceutilizing computer aided design (CAD) to develop a product is arequirement. * Experiencewith Unigraphics NX is plus. * Experiencewith different types of manufacturing, mechanisms, materials, propertolerancing, drafting standards, and GD&T are required. * Experiencewith handling projects within FDA Medical Device guidelines is preferred. * Experienceworking with complex capital system product development is highlypreferred. * Asuccessful track record of leading and influencing others withoutauthority, participating on multi-functional teams and solid negotiatingskills to bring products through end-to-end product development isrequired. * Theability to look beyond conventional solutions and familiarity withtechnologies extending beyond traditional orthopaedic therapies andproducts is desired. * Abilityto effectively communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge to otherindividuals, surgeons, customers and/ or teams is required. * Experiencereviewing and critically assess patents and other forms of intellectualproperty is highly preferred. * Strongorganizational skills to support all aspects of the project managementfunctions including scope definition, budgeting, and contingency planningwill be expected. * Thisposition is in Warsaw, IN, or Boston, MA, and may require up to 20%travel.
