Job Title: Senior Project Accountant

FLSA Status: Salaried Exempt

Position Summary: Prepare, review and analyze financial statements, prepare budgets, complete special projects, and interact with all levels of company personnel.

Job Duties:

Project Accounting:

  • Preparation and review of general journal entries for projects and corporate transactions

  • Preparation and review of journal entries to allocate indirect costs to the lot level.

  • Review lot level gross margins on a monthly/quarterly basis and identify variances.

  • Prepare and review lot reconciliations and record lot closing journal entries

  • Preparation and/or review of monthly cost of sales entries

  • Preparation and/or review of monthly bank reconciliations

  • Preparation of monthly GAAP financial statements and supporting schedules

  • Provide additional financial schedules for monthly financial reporting packages (internal and external)

  • Monitor monthly land bank option fees, trailing costs, participation fees, master marketing fees, and other recurring monthly transactions unique to each project. Additionally manage other recurring payments such as insurance premiums, special check requests, and property tax payments.

  • Preparation of quarterly prepaids amortization and fixed assets depreciation schedules

  • Prepare and submit monthly loan draws (requires basic knowledge of construction phases as well as interaction with operation team)

  • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly fee building construction draws.

  • Assist management with internal/external audit support.

  • Develop expertise of equity structure of individual joint ventures; assist in monthly capital calls or distributions and monitor progression on financial benchmarks

  • Ad Hoc reporting, as needed

General Accounting:

  • The candidate will possess the desire to assist with general accounting functions of The New Home Company and its subsidiaries.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required

Credentials/Certifications

  • N/A

Experience

  • Prior financial statement experience preferred

  • Strong GAAP experience

  • 5 or more years of accounting experience

  • Prior experience in real estate industry preferred but not required

Skills

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, ability to work independently

  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including MS Word and MS Excel

Base Salary: The expected base salary range for this position is between $85,000 to $100,000 per year, depending on experience and skillset. Base Salary is paid bi-weekly, every other Friday. Additionally, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on divisional and individual performance.
