We are hiring for a Full-Time Senior Programmer Analyst supporting data integration and data architecture at our downtown campus.

What you will do...

  • Maintain existing Custom Mulesoft applications.

  • Create new solutions to enhance data integration capabilities.

  • Contribute to the Event Messaging Center of Excellence.

  • Contribute to our enterprise data object definitions.

  • Interface with multiple business partners to understand requirements and to facilitate cross teams communication.

  • Proficient with multiple programming languages; Java, Node.JS, Python

  • Strong analysis and documentation skills.

  • Working knowledge of JSON schemas

  • Familiarity with AMQP and AWS queuing

  • A plus to have a working knowledge with Kibana dashboarding and searching as well as the other components of the ELK stack.

VIEW JOBS 3/22/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-20T00:00 Job Summary This position is part of the WordCruncher team in the Office of Digital Humanities. * Provide technical and custom programming support for preparing WordCruncher editions of digital texts and corpora, for faculty and student research projects, and for web applications. * Help scholars, students, and saints learn how to search, study, analyze, and create digital texts or corpora with WordCruncher and other research productivity tools used in digital humanities. Essential Functions * Custom programming. Write custom programs (e.g., Python, VBA, Perl) to convert digital texts effectively and efficiently from various formats (e.g., XML, HTML, docx) to the WordCruncher XML format so people can search, study, and analyze important texts for academic and personal research. Update existing products as needed. * Assist director in promoting services and helping users. Help director introduce scholars, students, and saints to the benefits of WordCruncher and other research productivity tools used in digital humanities. Help people use WordCruncher and other tools to search, study, analyze, and create digital texts or corpora. This may include (a) presentations to BYU departments, classes, or individuals, to Church departments, and at academic conferences, and (b) office visits, teaching a Digital Humanities course, creating "how to" videos, email support, phone support, custom programming, reporting bugs and suggestions, etc. * Assist director in training and supervising students. Help director train, hire, manage, and supervise 1 to 3+ student employees to use appropriate digital tools to prepare WordCruncher texts or corpora. * Assist director in determining and fulfilling project requirements. Attend meetings with BYU faculty and Church departments to identify and acquire important digital texts (e.g., literature, Joseph Smith Papers) of interest to scholars, students, and saints. Help director prioritize project requests, and determine time and resources requirements. * Assist director with web development. Help with web development as needed to update the WordCruncher website (e.g., web pages, programs, and data). This may involve custom programming (e.g., PHP, MySQL, HTML). * Assist director with a Digital Humanities course. Help with designing and teaching DigHT 260 (Tools for Text Processing and Analysis) and other DigHT courses as needed. Education/Experience: Minimum education/experience required: A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience related to the skills listed below. Preferred education/experience: Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics (computational emphasis), Computer Science, Information Technology, or in a related field plus work experience in computational linguistics, digital humanities, web scraping, and web application development Technical Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications Required * Python and regex programming for converting file formats, web scraping, and analyzing textual data. * Web and database programming (HTML, PHP, MySQL) * Excellent problem-solving, program design, and debugging skills * Experience with file formats (txt, rtf, docx, epub, mobi, pdf, html, xml) and methods of converting files from one format to another. * Able to learn new concepts and skills as project needs or circumstances change. * Able to work with little supervision and keep deadline commitments. * Able to work well in a team environment. * Able to work well with faculty, students, and others to facilitate research and teaching. Preferred * Programming experience with VBA, NLTK, Perl, and XSLT. * Experience with WordCruncher and creating WordCruncher books or corpora. * Basic understanding of statistics and computational linguistic methods. * Familiar with one or more foreign languages * Experience with Unicode (e.g., glyphs, code points, encodings), Unicode foreign language support (e.g., characters, BIDI), and font conversion. * Experience using advanced features of Word (e.g., styles, sections, wildcard find and replace, macros, foreign language input, right-to-left language support) * Experience using spreadsheets and databases to analyze data (e.g., using functions, sorting data). * Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, and InDesign. * Able to exceed expectations of team members, faculty, and other WordCruncher users.
