The Amazon NASC Material Flow Optimization Team is looking for a proven technical leader with extensive experience leading projects and programs in applying planning and engineering principles to operations. This would also include developing and implementing process improvement initiatives within the logistics and distribution industry. As the MFO Program Manager, you will work with multiple teams and a broad set of stakeholders including labor planning, operations, network planning, and service performance in designing and improving our expanding network of North American Sort Centers, while challenging the status quo of existing operations. This position requires a firm understanding of engineering principles, planning, forecasting, cost estimating, and process flows along with proven management skills in leading and developing others.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to display your skills in the following areas:

  • Facilitate the set-up and integration within buildings of new products, services, and operations

  • Plan and develop a dynamic network of facilities that is growing at a rate of 60% per year

  • Study operations to optimize and design new tools involving simulation and planning

  • Develop innovative design concepts to improve throughput, facility utilization, and optimize labor

  • Develop strong, productive relationships across peer organization that further our business objectives

  • Manage complex and quick-turn projects while demonstrating exceptional business judgement

  • Assess process improvement and transformation opportunities and partner with process owners and stakeholders to scope opportunities, define problem statements and objectives, and structure projects and teams

  • Train, coach, and mentor field Operations teams to empower them with leveraging operations tools and systems to meet daily business needs

Our MFO Program Managers work across the organization to find solutions to complex problems and are expected to innovate on behalf of our customers to ensure these solutions provide a flawless experience. In order to accomplish this, the individual must think strategically and make data driven decisions. You will be driving efforts, both independently and with your team which will have a significant impact on this growing business. Successful candidates will be strong leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivering results. You must have the experience and capability to create and present documentation for senior executives and align your roadmap with Amazon's strategic objectives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. You should be experienced in working with data to analyze root causes, implementing long term solutions, and leading teams with advanced analytical, mathematical, and quantitative capabilities.

  • BA or BS in Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical field from an accredited university

  • 5+ years serving as an engineer in operations, logistics, distribution, or transportation

  • 2+ years of management experience leading teams or groups and developing others

  • Demonstrated ability to own projects, think big, and influence across all levels of an organization

  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences, ability to simplify complex topics for broad audiences

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully work with others

  • Experience with SQL, Python, R, Tableau, VBA or other scripting and data science tools

  • Willingness to travel up to 40%

  • MBA or Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent technical field from an accredited university

  • Management experience in operations within the logistics, distribution, or transportation industry

  • Ability to teach and mentor colleagues in Lean/Kaizen/Process Mapping and Operational excellence fundamentals

  • Exposure to Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing efforts, transportation/logistics and/or fulfillment/distribution centers

  • Experience in developing and/or implementing Automation and Material Handling solutions

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel and SQL

  • Exposure to optimization solvers/tools (such as CPLEX, Gurobi, AMPL, Xpress) and advanced simulation modeling tools (such as Flexsim, Arena, Simio)

VIEW JOBS 5/28/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-08-26T00:00 GENERAL SUMMARY: The Senior Project / Program Manager (Sr. PM) will be responsible for managing multiple projects and managing a team of project managers acting as the engagement manager for MGAC to clients and other design and construction professionals for our Headquarters Integration Program located in Seattle Washington. Sr. PMs need to have a constant comprehension of project scope, budget, schedule and quality to make recommendations in the best interest of our clients. Sr. PMs are expected to take an active role, being responsible and accountable for timely and cost-effective delivery of projects through all phases of a project including, project justification, requirements definition, funding, programming, site selection, team sourcing and structure, budgeting, scheduling, design development, permitting, bid leveling, value engineering, construction administration and commissioning, FFE and Special Systems procurement and installation, and relocation. The Sr. PM is expected to be proficient at managing large project teams for large projects or to support a program inclusive of multiple projects. The Sr. PMs need to work autonomously and be self-sufficient executing projects. The Sr. PM will be expected to provide oversight of, and mentor PMs and APMs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Achieves Clients Vision is a Trusted Partner * Aligns/Manages project scope, schedule, budget and quality * Maintains Collaborative Relationships with Clients, A&E Professionals, Contractors / GCs, Vendors, Teams * Anticipates project and team risks; Solves complex challenges and conflicts * Manages P/L of Projects * Ensures timely invoicing, collection, and identifies add-services * Leads project risk management, contingency planning, schedule and budget recovery planning * Requirements gathering / needs assessments * Sourcing Architectural and Engineering Professionals * Managing the Design Documentation Process (CDs and Specifications); and Client Reviews * Managing the Procurement Process (Furniture, Fixture and Equipment and IT and Special Systems - Telecom, Audio-Visual Systems, Security Systems, Wireless, and Distributed Antenna Systems) * Sourcing Contractors * Managing the Construction Process including Construction Administration and Site Observation reports * Managing the Commissioning Process including Special Systems Commissioning * QA/QC for Construction and Installed Systems * Actively supports Business Development, Marketing, Social Media, Drives Proposals * Actively develops Client and Industry Relationships * Trains, Mentors, Retains Competent APMs and PMs; and has a capable successor * Receives positive Client feedback, and proactively seeks new opportunities with existing clients Project Management: * Project Planning - Documentation of Project Requirements from the Owner, and the development of conceptual budgets and schedules based on the define requirements * Vendor Sourcing we expect each Sr. PM to be able to develop RFPs and manage the sourcing process for all key vendors required to deliver our projects. This typically includes an Architect, MEP / FP Engineer, Commissioning Agent, General Contractor / Construction Manager, IT Design Consultant, and 3rd Party Testing & Inspections. * Vendor Management each Sr. PM will be responsible for managing all vendors engaged on the project. We expect our Sr. PMs to be comfortable having the conversations required to properly manage both the contractors and the professional services firms engaged on each project. * Meetings we expect each Sr. PM to be able to lead meetings. This includes developing agendas and issuing meeting minutes and action items. * Documentation the Sr. PM is expected to establish, organize and maintain project specific records for every project. This includes maintaining MGACs folder structure, maintaining / managing budgets, maintaining / updating schedules, meeting minutes, contracts, insurance certificates, RFPs, invoices, RFIs & Submittals, Design Documents, Close Out Documents, etc.) * Design Management the Sr. PM is expected to manage the entire design process from initial Programming Working Sessions through Final CDs (and Bulletins, Modifications if appropriate). The Sr. PM is expected to develop key Milestone Deliverable dates, which will be incorporated into all vendor RFPs, and then proactively manage the design team to meet those dates. This includes the PM identifying the long lead items and establishing milestones or bid packages to support the procurement of those items within the critical path schedule. * Reporting the Sr. PM is expected to develop executive reports for projects and programs reports in MS Office Suite software (Power Point, Word, Excel, etc.) to provide an update to the client on the health and performance of the entire project or programs scope, budget and schedule. These reports shall identify project status and highlight any project risks, escalations and decisions for the client. The reports may also include the development of key metrics and analytic tools to support this accomplishment. * Invoices we expect the Sr. PM to be able to review, approve and processing Invoices for all projects. This will include all vendors contracted to the client. * Budgets we expect the Sr. PM to be able to develop a conceptual cost estimate for projects, and to also manage and maintain project financial records. Sr. PM shall also be proficient in the review and management of contractor estimates and budgets. This includes budget reviews, variance analysis, value engineering, scope adjustments, etc. to manage the overall project scope, budget, and schedule. * Schedules Sr. PM should be proficient in developing a conceptual project schedule based on their experience and project requirements and be able to develop tools to manage projects within the define schedule milestones. * Correspondence / Communications we expect the Sr. PM to be able to communicate with all members of the project team, including the client. This includes providing guidance to the client, and in some cases saying no when clients want to do things that are outside of the scope or impact the budget and schedule. * Business Development we expect Sr. PMs to be able to work with the Vice Presidents, Managing Directors, and Business Development teams to generate business for MGAC. Historically, our best source of business has been repeated clients, and we expect all Sr. PMs to continue this trend. * Proposals we expect Sr. PMs to be able to work with the Vice Presidents and Business Development team to develop MGAC proposals in response to RFPs that we receive for Owners Representative / Project Management services, inclusive of the project fee structure, cash flow, staffing plan, project approach, clarifications, etc. to respond fully to a clients RFP or request. * Personnel Management Sr. PMs need to able to manage other MGAC personnel as we execute projects. We expect our Sr. PMs to be capable of managing and leading PMs and APMs to support our additional growth as the Critical Environments team. Education: Bachelors Degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university, or equivalent training, education, and experience in a related field (Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field to the Construction Industry). Experience: SPM: 10+ years experience, PM: 7+ years experience Candidates with commercial construction project management, analytical skills, and sound judgment are preferred. Acceptable experience includes any combination of the following: * Project Management * General Contractor / Construction Manager * Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Design) * Architectural Project Management / Construction Administration Work Hours: Office Hours are 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. While a standard working day is a minimum of eight working hours, it is incumbent on each employee to provide the highest level of support to meet the needs of our clients, and therefore often requires more than an eight-hour standard. Projects often involve activities that must be executed during nonworking hours. This will be specific to the given client, the project and their specific work rules. Certain activities could be performed during nights (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM) and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). MGAC is responsible for managing and coordinating the efforts of other professionals performing work at these times which may require MGAC presence and/or involvement during these off hours. Travel: Likely As the Owners Representative, projects require travel. As such, PMs are expected to travel to support our clients. Typical travel is approximately 2 to 3 days onsite depending on the phase and specific demands of a project.
