If so, then we have the job for you in the Microsoft Commercial Software Engineering (CSE) team. The CSE team codes with customer/partner engineering teams on their hardest challenges to unblock and accelerate progress. In the process, we capture learnings and develop reusable code frameworks, product feedback and guidance to improve the value of our platform.

We are looking for exceptionally skilled Program Manager/Architects (PMAs) to join the CSE Foundations team. Foundations PMAs lead highly leveraged projects that contribute recurring value to our platformi.e., capabilities with relevance that extend beyond a single customer engagement. As a Foundations PMA within one of our three global regionsEMEA, Asia, Americasyou will fulfill the Product Owner role for a small portfolio of such projects with Microsoft engineering teams and customer/partner engineers based in your region and elsewhere. In this capacity, you will identify and 'own' key technology scenarios, orchestrate the engineering approach to address these, and develop the end-to-end user stories with internal and external stakeholders (including your counterparts in the other regions).

  • 6+ years of proven success with Program Managment, Product Development, or Business Management in the technology or engineering industry.

  • Deep understanding of cloud, mobile and other computing technologies, business drivers, and emerging trends across Microsoft and non-Microsoft technologies.

  • Leadership (not necessarily management) especially of geographically dispersed, virtual teams and ability to orchestrate a high-performing team.

  • Ability to build relationships with senior technical and business stakeholders within Microsoft businesses.

  • Strong knowledge of application development practices and a track record of working closely with large development or engineering teams.

  • Strong verbal and written communication ability including fluency in English.

  • Be prepared to spend 25% of your time travelling within your global region (EMEA, Asia, Americas) with occasional travel worldwide.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Identifying technical industry use cases and patterns (Foundation Scenarios) that have potential for CSE to impact industry adoption by producing reusable software assets.

  • Driving the selection and prioritization of Foundation Scenarios for CSE development team engagement, based on evaluation of criteria like customer relevance, reusability, leverage, strategic impact, and complementarity with existing platform technologies.

  • Clearly identifying the technical blockers to adoption for Foundation Scenarios and needed enhancementse.g., platform features, developer tooling, third-party/OSS integrationsrequired to address them.

  • Identifying and connecting with experts, and investigating "prior art", both internally and externally, to capture and apply earlier lessons learned.

  • Coordinating across teams to establish/maintain the right engineering partnerships internally and externally to deliver on Foundation Scenario artifacts in a way that optimizes across leverage and sustainability.

  • Working with CSE engineering managers to identify, onboard and make efficient use of developer expertise in Foundation project teams as needs evolve over the project lifecycle.

  • Developing best practices in open source software/product development to ensure that project teams are able to make consistently high-quality, sustainable open source contributions.

  • Participating in hands-on coding engagements, e.g., by performing the detailed technical investigation needed to understand issues, usability factors and competitive/alternative approaches relevant to a given Foundation Scenario.

  • Fulfill the Product Owner (PO) function on prioritized Foundation projects, owning epics/stories, driving backlog prioritization, etc.

You will utilize strategic decision making, strong analytical capabilities and thought leadership to ensure that vendors are meeting quality standards and SLA's as defined by the operations teams. Through effective project management and statistical analysis, you will help define, standardize and innovate the program's strategy across multiple suppliers, locations and workflows.
