Job Overview:

The Senior Product Manager position will own end-to-end responsibility for Voice Application(s) across multiple domains. This role will define hypothesis to validate the business and customer value for a variety of use cases including informational, utility, marketing and ecommerce. The responsibilities of the Senior Product Manager include both ensuring an exceptional external customer experience as customers interact with our brand and merchandise, as well as the internal tools and processes that support this experience. A Senior Product Manager combines a strong understanding of customer needs with an equally deep understanding of business goals to champion solutions that deliver value for Macy's. This role is responsible for developing and socializing opportunities, overseeing the development of design solutions, and advocating concepts with internal business groups. Finally, this role needs to work collaboratively with the Macys Technology group to bring products to life. A Senior Product Manager is able to manage multiple capability streams simultaneously, at various stages of their development. Strong candidates should possess a proven track record of leading and developing teams, working and influencing in a cross-functional context, and using data to drive decision-making. This role specifically will work in Lean product development: aggressively minimizing the MVP, validating hypothesis through experimentation, and capturing and analyzing data to inform further iterative delivery. Essential Functions:

  • Defining the value proposition for the voice applications. What value does the voice application promise its users? Why should people use this application and what value will users derive by using this application?

  • Conduct research of the domain to understand other similar applications available to consumers and their strengths and weaknesses; assess the gap between consumer expectations and what is available to them from competing applications.

  • Define a distinctive positioning for the application in line with the value it provides to the end user, its unique features and functionality and differentiation from other such applications.

  • Define a detailed list of features and functionality for the voice application, organize and prioritize them for implementation.

  • Envision conversation tree mapping for top-level conversation flow.

  • Work with engineering teams and VUI UX and conversation designers. Work with conversation designers to improve the conversation quality and make conversations more human-like. Work with engineering teams to understand and leverage platform capabilities and features in order to create compelling conversational experiences that are human like.

  • Research all data sources in specific domain areas to identify structured and unstructured data sources for the application.

  • Identify the categories of questions that the application should be capable of answering in a domain. Work with the engineering team to identify sources of structured and unstructured data that will help in answering these questions.

  • Create product notes and product specifications. Work with marketing to assist with product descriptions for the application on app stores.

  • Works closely with User Research Team to understand how customers are engaging with voice applications and use this to help inform future voice use case support and capability backlog.

  • Create content like demo videos and other content to demonstrate the capability of the application. Work with marketing teams to promote new capabilities in the marketplace.

  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.

Decision Making:

  • Exercises sound judgment in terms of keeping his/her supervisor abreast of progress and asks for timely assistance/guidance as need on addressing blockers/concerns.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • College degree preferred.

  • At least 3-6 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: product management, product marketing, business development, management consulting preferably in innovation/early stage technology spaces.

  • Strong eCommerce background with experience in building voice user experiences for voice applications is a plus.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Product Management and at least 4 years managing end to end responsibility for products that are emerging/innovative and where the path is less clear in terms of customer engagement and adoption.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Able to communicate and collaborate well with technical teams is important.

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret business and technical documents.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and analytical skills.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Strong analytical, prioritization and negotiating skills.

  • Usability and customer-focused design experience a plus.

  • Passionate about building great products and solving customer and business problems.

  • Must be comfortable with ambiguity and highly adaptable.

Physical Demands:

  • This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.

  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

  • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time.

  • Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.

  • May involve moving or lifting items under 10 pounds.

  • Strong leadership profile, excellent prioritization and negotiation skills.

  • Is able to operate effectively in areas of uncertainty and ambiguity.

  • Proactively anticipates/ identifies problems that arise in the project, outlines options, recommends solutions, and escalates as needed.
