What we're looking for

As a Senior Product Manager, Technical at Vacasa, you will take ownership of products that are core to our business and shared across our lines of business. You'll apply your experience to build services and frameworks that accelerate our overall product development delivery. In addition to working with the engineers on your delivery team, you'll interact with your customers: all of our engineering teams.

You have a technical background, are capable of writing code (in an emergency), and understand how software development teams work, and how engineers think. You are the kind of person who enjoys thorny problems, wants to take charge to fix them, and you have the ability to understand and communicate complex technical and business systems to a wide audience.

What you'll do

  • Determine and prioritize features for our shared services

  • Create data models, write API specifications, and specify non-functional requirements for greenfield services that are used by all parts of the business

  • Work directly with your dedicated engineering team to drive tactical execution and ensure that our products exceed standards of quality

  • Accurately assess timelines and delivery schedules, and clearly communicate opportunities and risks to management

  • Create and maintain relationships with key partners and internal teams

  • Own product performance by setting success metrics and monitoring them to inform the future product roadmap

  • Define, manage, and evolve product strategy, roadmap, and vision

  • Act as a product evangelist to build awareness and understanding

Skills you'll need

  • Experience working as a product manager, business systems analyst, software architect, or engineer

  • The standard set of PM skills: understanding markets, competition, and user problems in depth to articulate why and how we should build

  • Service-oriented approach to product management

  • Experience with software and system architecture, preferably in the cloud (AWS)

  • Experience with SQL and/or data modeling

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent

  • Experience with Jira in an Agile development environment is a plus!

You will work across the organization to collaboratively develop and manage product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, including converting product vision and market strategy into market requirements, product roadmap and release plans, product feature design, product development priorities, release readiness and product maintenance. You will work with colleagues in their product/service line to provide a cohesive offering that contributes to the comprehensive portfolio solution. You will work closely with the State Business Unit, Product Marketing and Partner Accounts on go-to-market strategy and execution for their product. You are responsible for ensuring that your product/service supports the organization's overall strategy and mission and profitability and partner satisfaction goals are met. Area of Emphasis… You will be responsible for driving the State Summative Solution sets (including coordination with 3rd Party Products) through productization, development and launch. You will work closely with Product Management, our State Account Team, Product Engineering, Publishing, Research and Proposals team to craft the Product Solution set of alternatives that can be mixed and matched to meet the State or target district requirements. You will inform Research and the Platforms Product Management teams on features and requirements of the new Computer Adaptive Test engine for use in Summative Solutions. You will also inform the organization on the new types of items and the additional reporting features the Summative Market is expecting or demanding. Your Next Challenge… * Evangelize and champion assigned products, with a focus on maintaining a drive through the development process and successfully release to the market * Responsible for all aspects of the technical product management for assigned product(s) and service(s), including planning and execution, including but not limited to, market and product/service opportunities, business and financial analysis, roadmap and release, market requirements, functional requirements validation, solution definition, go-to-market information and artifacts, and sales support * Coordinates planning with other product managers and stakeholders to ensure comprehensive market readiness from a segment perspective given market trending, compliance concerns and political drivers * Participate in RFI/RFP process pertaining to the State/Summative business with a focus on defining the solution being delivered * Manage products and services throughout the product life-cycle from solution innovation, definition, release and end-of-life planning * Assess technology trends, and current and emerging competitors in order to inform product direction; utilize and gather market and industry research and analysis to inform a long-range product roadmap * Identify opportunities to optimize product/service profitability through value-based pricing, production efficiency recommendations, and competitive and market intelligence to improve partner retention rates and partner satisfaction * Travel as required, up to 25% Your Skills and Abilities… * Ability to embed the organizational mission as the core driver in product strategy and planning, balancing business and market demands in the context of the organizational mission * Provide product leadership and demonstrates a sustained ability to manage products and find a path to success in a complex fast changing environment is essential * Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority * Capable of establishing a business case to support product strategy and direction. * Consistent, proactive and healthy cross-functional communication skills that motivates cross-functional teams and all business relationships * Sound business judgment and acumen and solid understanding of financial issues impacting product profitability including the ability to read a financial statement, manage the P&L of the product, and deliver projected margins and market performance * Demonstrated ability to operate and contribute at both a tactical and strategic level. Your Education and Experience … * Bachelor's degree in education, technical or business discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree * Minimum seven years' experience in product management, product development, business analysis or related discipline, with at least one year in product management related to the area of emphasis. * Domain knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the area of emphasis and the educational marketplace * Experience working with Agile Development process * Experience with all aspects of go-to-market planning and launch * Solid knowledge of/experience with the Product Lifecycle Management processes such as requirements definition, business plan development, new product introduction, etc. * Experience with complex large-scale testing/assessment solutions a plus * Proficient with Pragmatic or 280 group Product Management frameworks a plus Northwest Evaluation Association Portland OR
