Job Summary

Support engineering with a variety of moderately complex engineering duties and/or hands-on tasks.

Job Responsibilities

  • Calibrate and align optical systems containing lasers, optics, fiber optics, and related components.

  • Assist in the specification, purchasing, and qualification of laser and optical components.

  • Strong knowledge of optical systems is preferred.

  • Support engineering with a variety of moderately complex engineering duties and/or hands-on tasks

  • Able to work independently on a weekly basis

  • Comfortable with the shop/laboratory and equipment

  • Assist in design, build and/or procurement of new or improved machines, tools, fixtures and material handling equipment and coordinating the implementation

  • Responsible for completing process documentation, bill of materials, route sheets, etc

  • Review project instructions and drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem and possible solutions, and to support the design for manufacture

  • Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified electrical and/or mechanical components or assemblies for products

  • Set up and conduct tests of units and components

  • Analyze test results related to the design and test objectives and adjust equipment to bring within specifications

  • Record these test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods

  • Provide and develop documentation to maintain equipment

  • May lead technician teams in development or mentor other technicians

  • Provide hands-on feedback to engineers

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of plant layouts, manufacturing methods and process improvements

  • May coordinate maintenance projects

  • Mentor and coach less experienced technicians

Qualifications

  • 4+ years experience and Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Work Conditions

  • Travel: 0-10% of time

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
