Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Senior Process Engineer in Allentown, PA.

The successful candidate will work in the North America Process Engineering team. We are primarily responsible for the process design and execution of large air separation units, hydrocarbon processing plants, liquid H2, helium production and liquefaction, CO/Syngas and large-scale steam methane reformers. The technologies supported are split between both high temperature processes and cryogenic processes.

Our team executes designs that span all Industrial Gases for the varying markets that Air Products serves. We support both Product Teams (Process Gas and ASU) in development of new products as well as executing mature technology offerings.

We also support our internal customers: Americas Operations, Equipment Sales and Plant Support (ESPS) and the Pipeline group.

The successful candidate will assume a Process engineering role with the initial focus on executing cryogenic plant designs. Future work will likely include SMR/HyCO and other related high temperature processes if the skill set is appropriate.

The successful candidate may be asked to support work in our other engineering offices in Hersham (UK), Shanghai (China), and Pune (India).


Principal Accountabilities /

Responsibilities:
  • Support the Product Teams in synthesis, selection and evaluation of process cycles for optimum plant cost and power

  • Generate/refine Heat & Material Balances (HMBs) using ASPEN+ process simulator

  • Develop/refine plant Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)

  • Perform detailed equipment design calculations and specifications for front-end adsorption purification systems, cryogenic heat exchangers, and distillation columns for engineer-to-order opportunities

  • Perform/refine calculations and write duty specifications for machinery, vessels, control valves, relief devices, and other instruments

  • Support P&ID development, operability reviews and hazard reviews

  • Support model reviews, complete coldbox inspections

  • Interface with third party SMR equipment supplier

  • Support plant start-up and lead plant performance testing

  • Support Operations and ESPS with evaluations, calculations, studies as requested

  • Domestic and international travel to customer locations and to plant sites is expected about 15 percent of the time.

Qualifications:

To be successful as part of the North America Process Engineering team, candidates must:

  • Be self-motivated and have good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Support a variety of projects within budgeted hours and to schedule

  • Have a strong understanding of thermodynamics and be able to adapt knowledge to new applications

  • Develop a working relationship with The Product Line Teams as well as other groups within the Central Engineering Teams (Controls, Systems, Machinery, etc.)

  • Have good commercial and fiscal awareness and actively seek lowest cost alternatives

  • Motivate and supervise less experienced engineers

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or Mechanical Engineering

  • 10-15 years prior experience in Process, Operations, Process Systems, or Controls is preferred

VIEW JOBS 2/20/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-05-20T00:00 Job Description and Qualifications The Standard Plants Product Line (SPPL) has an opening for a working Process Controls Team Lead reporting to the Hydrogen Refueling Systems (HRS)Team Manager. In this position, the incumbent will support the development and provide supervision of Process Controls Engineering functional capabilities within the SPPL HRS team. In addition to team management responsibilities, this person will be responsible for global coordination with other Process Controls engineering teams and Global Operations to ensure that Controls resources are available to support projects (including start-ups), product development and proposal support. The incumbent will be responsible for growing process controls capabilities globally to support workload including hiring, on-boarding and developing new team members. This position involves the supervision initially of approximately four to six direct reports. Principal accountabilities of this position are as follows: * Provide functional excellence for Process Controls Engineering within the HRS team. * Directly supervise Process Controls engineering resources, including development of training plans, definition of critical skills, resource allocation and appraisals. * Coordinate globally with other Process Controls engineering teams and Global Operations to ensure HRS projects are properly resourced and that resources are properly trained. * Be a leader in Process Controls safety. Contribute to HAZOPs appropriately and effectively. Ensure that Controls efforts meet Air Products and Industry safety requirements. * Troubleshoot field problems with instrumentation and control systems. * Support Process Controls functional estimates for bids. Manage Process Controls efforts on projects within both schedule and budget. * Support HRS product team to develop new hydrogen fueling station products to support market needs. * Support localization of process controls related scope from global products to ensure compliance with regional codes ad standards. * Understand mechanical, electrical and instrument components associated with HRS systems to enable remote troubleshooting and guidance to installed systems. Qualifications for the position are as follows: * B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience. * At least ten years of experience in Engineering and/or Operations, with at least five years of experience in process automation, instrumentation, and controls. * Be self-motivating and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. * Be able to motivate, coach, and supervise team members. * Develop and cultivate working relationships with other individuals / groups within the Standard Plant Products Line (Process Engineering Team, Subject Matter Experts, Global Product Owners, Start-Up Team, etc.). * Be willing to travel both domestically and globally for panel check-out and start-up activities as needed, as well as for occasional global functional team lead meetings. Field assignments can vary from one to six weeks in duration, depending on project complexity. The incumbent may expect to travel up to about 15% of the time in this position.
