Larson Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Pulp and Paper Process and Mechanical Engineer to lead front end engineering and detailed design of projects throughout the paper mill process. The ideal candidate will have expertise in multiple process areas such as paper machine wet end and dry end, stock prep., broke systems, batch and continuous digesters, washing and bleaching, recausticizing, and steam and power systems.


This position is for a remote off-site individual who can work independently with clients in executing projects, and utilize technical resources from Larson Engineering's Atlanta area office as needed to fulfill project design needs.

This position will work directly with multiple disciplines to develop all aspects of various projects. The position will require direct contact with clients and vendors to meet necessary project goals. The ideal candidate will be an independent goal seeker and have a growth-orientated personality with a willingness to address all aspects of varying industrial projects. As an engineering consultant, you will need a broad knowledge of the latest equipment and technology used in the pulp and paper industry, with the ability to develop complete solutions for clients.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Leading, performing, and overseeing specific project tasks related to mechanical and process design.

  • Performing process calculations, flow balances, pipe & pump sizing, pressure drop calculations, etc.

  • Development of flow diagrams and Process & Instrument Diagrams.

  • Project Capital Cost Estimating and Project Schedule development for front end engineering and detailed design projects.

  • Creation of equipment, project, and material specifications.

  • Performing field verifications of new designs and existing environments.

  • Collecting existing information and interpreting data.

  • Creation of reports, project summaries and recommendations.

  • Developing projects from initial design concepts through construction.

  • Coordinating with other disciplines to generate project goals for the client.

  • Providing onsite construction assistance.

  • Ability to Travel as needed ~50% from home.

  • Some experience in AutoCAD design and 3-D modeling is beneficial.


  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Paper Science Engineering

  • Minimum10 years' experience in a Design Engineering role, for pulp and paper projects

  • Professional Engineer License is desirable

  • High Proficiency in process design

  • Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent written communications skills

Examples include but not limited to: system & harness development for custom cabinetry (such as galleys, lavatories, closets, & storage compartments), interior peripheries, PSU, cabin liners, ledges/dados, and seating installations. Design experience with power distribution, lighting, switching, wire sizing and routing is required. Systems function & design experience in aircraft cabin satellite communication (Inmarsat and Iridium), security, and entertainment systems are required. Familiarity in aircraft mechanical systems design; to include pneumatic supply, oxygen, water & drain, HVAC and pressure control is preferred. Design engineer will design installations for aforementioned commodities along with necessary EWIS requirements for Electrical harnesses & components installation and should have the competency with requirements. * Experience with Part 25 aircraft requirements and some familiarity with Part 135 requirements. General familiarity with aircraft STC Procedures preferred. * Engineering design work includes the creation of drawings/models using AutoCAD, SmarTeam, Capital Harness System/Mentor Graphics, and familiarity with Catia V5 (Electrical Harness Installation for CHS Integration. Design Engineer will be required to liaison with the shop on engineering issues. * Design assignments shall include Installation Analysis, Similarity Documentation, and Electrical Load Analysis along with any other required items for Substantiation of design. Design engineer will employ design standards consistent with company standards and accepted design methods are executed under the direction of the Electrical Engineering Managers, Group Heads &/or Leads to meet the manufacturing schedule. * Additional responsibilities are out lined in the job description and as assigned by the Electrical Engineering Leadership. * Other preferred skills: Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Power Point. Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelors degree in engineering, a related curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
