Responsibilities / Tasks

GEA is looking for a talented Process Automation Engineer to join our team in Hudson, WI. In this role, the engineer will Design, test and commissions industrial electrical and process control systems including hardware and software.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Designs electrical control panels and control systems by applying knowledge of electricity, materials, and instrumentation/control equipment.

  • Incorporates specifications and requirements into system design and specifies and requisitions equipment accordingly.

  • Coordinates and supervises design requirements with designers.

  • Assures product quality by designing electrical testing methods; testing finished products and system capabilities.

  • Coordinates, supervises and inspects the activity of electricians performing system wiring both in-house (skid systems) and at customer sites.

  • Provides electrical checkout of systems in-house and at customer sites.

  • Generates detailed process Functional Descriptions (FDs) from general process descriptions handed over from the product departments.

  • Coordinates with the product departments to ensure the programming will meet their requirements.

  • Coordinates with Team Lead

  • Process Automation to fully understand the Process Automation standards, and to implement those concepts in the control systems.
  • Designs software applications by applying knowledge of computer programs, systems, and networks, and/or by supervising and coordinating the design done by subcontractors.

  • Tests software applications by performing simulation testing of software on the hardware platforms or emulators.

  • Coordinate schedule and budget with the Team Lead

  • Process Automation and the Project Manager.
  • Completes projects by commissioning instrumentation, electrical, and control systems at customer sites.

  • Maintains product and company reputation by utilizing established equipment, procedures, and designs, and complying with federal, state and local regulations.

  • Maintains confidentiality by keeping information confidential.

  • Prepares documentation to be included in operating manual by identifying and describing equipment operating characteristics.

  • Contributes to team effort by assisting others with their projects and completing non-project related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related field

  • Must have 2+ years experience in process controls technology or related field

  • Must be self motivated

  • Must possess good interpersonal skills and work well in a team setting as well as independently

  • Must be detail oriented

  • Must have proven analytical skills

  • Must possess good English language communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Must be willing to travel (up to 25% of the time, some internationally)

  • Working knowledge of MS Office


  • Sit, stand, bend, reach, walk for long periods of time in office setting

  • Must be able to lift/carry 25 lbs.

  • Use of steps, stairs, lifts routinely

  • May be required to work extended hours which may include weekend and holidays

  • Regularly exposed to manufacturing areas that may require personal protective equipment

  • Regularly exposed to a manufacturing work environment that is cold, dirty, greasy, wet and noisy

This team helps create a "ONE MERCURY" culture and solve and support complex challenges. To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience * 2+ Years Flotherm Experience * 7+ Years of Solid works Experience * Experience leading teams and influencing complex decisions * Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience Responsibility Statement: Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Demonstrates excellent judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Designs and analyzes mechanical board and system level COTS and MOTS products. May act as informal team lead. Network with key contacts outside own area of expertise. Participates and/or directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Provide technical interface to customers, subcontractors, assemblers, fabricators, consultants, and vendors/suppliers as applicable to system-level power, packaging, and cooling solutions. Responsible for the complete design, development, analysis and documentation of mechanical devices and/or systems with mechanical parts for new and existing products. Use wide-ranging experience, using professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
