Oracle's Hardware Development (OHD) organization seeks to add a Senior Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Designer to design complex, multi-layer, high-speed/high-density, next generation boards that are at the core of the servers used for Oracle's Cloud Systems and Appliance deployments. This is a centralized function that supports OHD on both east and west coasts, with this position being based on our Burlington, Massachusetts campus.
You will work with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Signal Integrity and Power Integrity functional experts across multiple project teams to layout boards that utilize the latest technology from all of the major hardware vendors in the compute, storage and communications arenas.
As a Senior Printed Circuit Board Designer, you will be responsible for all aspects of PCB design including placement, routing, checking, documentation, and data output generation.
The list of responsibilities (but not limited to) may include:
Produce PCB [printed circuit board] layouts on assigned engineering product requirements while meeting established schedules, design rules, methodology and quality levels.
Efficiently use Cadence Allegro (v17) and other related design software tools such as Mentor Valor NPI as well as internally developed program utilities.
Utilize established processes, workflows and procedures for creating, checking, and validating required design files, output data, reports and documentation in order to manufacture and assemble PCBs to Oracle's standards.
Leverage and manage additional internal or external resources to maximize productivity on project needs as required to meet schedule goals.
Provide schedule estimates for both design completion as well as interim milestone dates.
Support the disposition of inputs/deviation requests from PCB fabrication and assembly vendors.
Incorporate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) in conjunction with Oracle's release process.
The list of responsibilities that may be required on a limited basis:
Ability to create physical footprint symbols using Cadence Allegro and schematic models using Cadence AllegroDE (ConceptHDL) toolsets.
Perform detailed peer review of PCB designs in accordance with Oracle's DFx standards.
Required Training, Knowledge and Skills
Minimum of 5 years of experience with Cadence Allegro through version 17.X with a focus on large format, multi-layer, high-speed digital designs.
Extensive experience with Cadence's Constraint Manager tool and proficiency in constraint driven methodologies. Able to create and implement physical constraints as well as interface with SI engineers on electrical constraints.
Solid understanding of the PCB design trade-offs between high-speed digital, signal integrity, power, thermal and mechanical requirements and be able to recommend and implement the best overall PCB layout solution to the project teams.
Experience with high speed routing techniques and topologies including differential pair, relative propagation and match delay, and phase tuning.
PCB design experience with high speed busses such as: PCIe (Gen3, Gen4 and above), DDR4, Intel UPI/DMI, SAS, SATA, Muti-gigabit Ethernet (25-100G+), USB, SPI, etc.
Experience with Mentor Graphics' Valor NPI solution in order to verify that PCB layouts meet Oracle's DFx requirements.
Excellent organizational skills and good verbal/written communication abilities. Ability to develop solid working relationships with the different engineering teams/disciplines, peers, and management
Provides coordination between PC Design and engineering in conceptual and overall equipment packaging design.
Carries development work through to manufacturing release, ensuring that design objectives are met and documentation is completed.Coordinates and performs CAD design tasks on complex, multi-layer printed wiring boards. Translates, encodes and formats schematic and mechanical information using traditional schematics, previously inputted data, data books and company design standards.Gathers and investigates information of component parts and technical information to create and maintain CAD system libraries.Performs manual design tasks as needed. Maintains drawing control and security using knowledge of CAD design techniques, computer systems and file structures.Assists in minimal computer operator functions, such as database control, back-up and archive.
Job duties are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. May have project lead role. 5 years relevant work experience. BS/BA preferred.
