Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Software Systems Engineer Level 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA.

The selected candidate will perform software specification requirements development, functional analysis, and integration/troubleshooting at the system, subsystem level, and software level.

Essential Functions:

  • Software Requirement Specification (SRS) development

  • Work with Responsible Engineer (REs) to define software requirements

  • Trace software requirements to segment requirements

  • Ensure consistency and quality of Software Systems Engineering products

  • Act as a resourceful point of contact for the VMS (Vehicle Management System) Team

  • Support the investigation of issues and drive to closure

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidate must be comfortable in a lab environment and be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, integration/test engineers, and software engineers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM field with 9 years of applied experience or 7 years with a Master's Degree or 4 years with a PhD.

  • Security Requirements:
    Candidate must have Active DoD Top Secret and a background investigation within the scope of five years and be able to obtain and maintain a program specific accesses if required.

  • Experience with VMS (Vehicle Management System) or Software Systems Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in STEM related field with 7 years of experience.

  • Experience with Software Requirement Specification (SRS) development

  • Experience with VMS (Vehicle Management System)

  • DOORS proficient

  • Program Access

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) is seeking a Survivability Principal Systems Engineer for the Manned COE West A group. This position will be located in Palmdale, California. Survivability manufacturing efforts include: the development, usage, and maintenance of the methodology and procedures to verify aircraft, component RF signature, or electrical material properties. This includes the integration of various designs, seam types, and suites of materials and testing of technology applications of new and existing aircraft. Additional roles support the detail design, production and supportability characteristics of the aircraft. While also providing detailed knowledge of Structural design, Subsystem design, Production constrains and capabilities as well as specific problems and experiences. A Senior Principal System Survivability Engineer knowledge, skills, and abilities showcases extensive technical expertise with a full knowledge of other related disciplines. The position requires system thinking and working knowledge of development life-cycle processes. The ability to communicate (written and oral) effectively is critical with the responsibility of clearly presenting technical approaches and findings. High level problem solving is required with the ability to develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. At this level work is performed without appreciable direction. A successful candidate exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment, with the end result of completed work being reviewed from a relatively long- term perspective, for desired results. The Senior Principal System Survivability Engineer guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives. The engineer represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Additionally the engineer interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. The candidate will support collaborative coordination cross-IPTs to accomplish the goal of an operationally validated integrated system. Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 9 years of engineering experience OR Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of engineering experience OR PhD Degree in a STEM discipline and 4 years of engineering experience * Previous experience in survivability manufacturing, design and analysis, verification and validation, system integration, or survivability materials development and qualification * Previous experience mentoring engineers in the design, development, verification or validation of RCS materials, components and/or systems * Active DoD SECRET clearance, within 4 years of last investigation * The ability to obtain and maintain special access program clearances is required Preferred Qualifications: * Candidates with experience in signature integration, RF survivability design, analysis, and testing are highly desired. * Computer-aided drafting (CAD) skills with, such as Catia or NX * Experience translating program needs into actionable tasking as a technical lead or for cost estimating * Prior experience with the overseeing Test and Engineering work orders * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Previous experience working in the SAP/SAR environment * Existing SAP/SAR program access * Existing program access to one or more of the Applied Research and Advanced Design program areas * Active DoD TOP SECRET clearance, within 4 years of last investigation Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
