Senior Principal, AI Architect

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Tech Strategy and Transformation and working with the Mastercard Applied AI team, the Senior Principal is responsible for driving architecture and technology decisions on Mastercard's foundational Gen AI platform. This role is responsible for enabling value creation from data science programs by (a) aligning the selection and development of foundational capabilities to business needs, (b) ensuring AI systems conform to Mastercard standards concerning security, scalability, and localization, and (c) providing architecture guidance to AI developers to optimize their solutions.

The Role

1/ Aligning the selection and development of foundational capabilities to business needs

  • Owning the technical architecture of Mastercard's foundational Gen AI platform

  • Working with AI strategists to understand synthesized business needs and creating technical evaluation frameworks to select the optimal tech stack

  • Hands-on prototyping of new technology and AI solutions

  • Staying up to date with the latest AI trends/emerging technologies and look for opportunities to improve the stack.

  • Selecting appropriate technologies from the many open source, commercial on-premises, and cloud-based offerings available.

2/ Ensuring AI systems conform to Mastercard standards concerning security, scalability, and localization

  • Providing technical expertise during implementation of the foundational Gen AI platform and its enhancements.

  • Building strong relationships with Architecture & Technology to ensure our solutions meet Mastercard standards constraints.

  • Influencing dependent organization's roadmaps by contributing to their planning documents and goal setting exercises

  • Helping the business and AI developers bulletproof functional and non-functional requirements - considering aspects like security, usability and stability

3/ Providing architecture guidance to AI developers to optimize their solutions

  • Developing solution architectures that integrate ML models into real-world systems.

  • Collaborating with business stakeholders, data scientists, MLOps engineers, and Technology partners.

  • Assisting in the design of end-to-end solutions from data ingestion and processing to exposing APIs and applications for consumption

All about you

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering roles with 5+ in solution architecture and 2+ in AI.

  • Ability to define target state technology architecture and roadmaps.

  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles

  • Expert in data science scripting languages (python, R) and application languages (C, javascript, etc.)

  • Experience with big data platforms such as Redshift, Snowflake and Hadoop

  • Expert with cloud compute environments (AWS) along with cloud-native tools

  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles

  • Demonstrated ability to balance the delivery of projects against the realities of a budget; and problem solving, project management and creative resourcefulness

  • Experience in the payments domain preferred

  • Graduate-level degree in computer science, engineering, or relevant work experience

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
