Position Primary Purpose: Review and perform analysis of credit and applicant information to evaluate commercial loan requests.

Approve loan requests within approval authority limit and submit loan requests for approval when outside of authority limit. Ensure data integrity and stability of the portfolio by conducting annual reviews of existing loans.

Essential Functions

Review customer applications and loan packages to help structure transactions in a manner that allows the Credit Union to lend within its policies, while minimizing credit risk.

Compose credit requests for approval in narrative format: spread and analyze financial positions for the prospective borrower(s), guarantor(s), and any related entities impacting the credit decision; prepare ratio analysis on findings; appropriately risk rate prospective loans; review and discuss market risks; analyze collateral risks including LTV and property characteristics; review and analyze legal documentation as appropriate; identify deal strengths and weakness, mitigating all risks. Ensure all structuring is within Credit Union Policy and Regulatory Guidelines.

Work/communicate with the loan production team to collect needed credit request information, ongoing reporting information, and updates on loans/relationships. Communicate directly with clientele in a professional manner, building rapport via phone, email, and in person conversations.

Research, review, analyze, and approve appraisals as necessary.

Assist with loan portfolio monitoring, including annual term loan reviews, asset quality rating upgrades or downgrades, and credit modifications for changes to loan member status. Complete business financial spreads and personal cash flow spreads, surfacing risk as appropriate. Recommend risk rating adjustments as necessary.

Conduct real estate inspections as needed.

Perform master file maintenance, including covenant tracking as necessary, ensuring accuracy and completeness on each credit.

Provide proactive loan status updates and communicate to members or other interested parties; resolve discrepancies and problems to minimize turn time while thoroughly documenting credit requests; provide periodic reports and ensure quality member service throughout the loan process. Help organize and manage a system for loan relationships and report results periodically.

Develop knowledge of business and commercial real estate loan industry, rates, vendors, and competition through various resources, including ongoing professional networking. Complete all education, training, and professional development as necessary and requested.

Mentor department staff to provide responsive and professional service to internal departments and branches. Assure staff development through training to allow for succession needs and achievement of corporate and personal goals.

Participate in and record minutes for Management Loan Committee meetings as necessary.

Demonstrate Credit Union knowledge and meet annual product and service certification requirements. Comply with all state and federal regulations and compliance standards. Complete required compliance training on a timely basis.

Ensure required records are retained in accordance with the Salal Records Retention Program and preserved in a careful and secure manner.

Use network PC workstation to access core system software to perform account transactions, queries, and specialized functions for accounts as needed. Utilize all Internet service delivery systems and Microsoft Office Suite to perform duties as needed. Operate and maintain department equipment and troubleshoot as needed.

Position Qualifications

Previous Experience: Minimum 5-7 years experience underwriting commercial lending with a strong understanding of commercial banking terms and definitions, including analyzing commercial real estate and owner-occupied properties.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable with an associate degree in a related field.

Demonstrated Abilities: Effective communication, both verbal and written.

Perform detailed personal and global cash flow analysis. Strong credit acumen, including auditing, math, and financial analysis aptitude. Make decisions on loans after detailed situational analysis.

Complete work thoroughly, effectively, and efficiently under pressure - within tight deadlines and with little supervision. Maintain confidentiality. Work with clients, members and professional connections in a personable and professional manner always.

Ability to work with a team or independently. Interact positively with co-workers, management, and the public. Basic knowledge of related state and federal loan regulations and other lending policies.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word. Ability to key information into computer data processing system. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, quality, quantity and timeliness of work.

Physical Requirements:
Sitting or standing continuously for periods of four hours, communicating verbally, communicating in writing, faculty of seeing and hearing and operating a keyboard. Lifting and carrying usually not to exceed 20 pounds.

Mental Requirements:
Interpersonal interactions, problem solving, analyzing/evaluating, decision making, discretion/confidentiality, teamwork, read/write/speak English, creativity and task handling. Basic math skills, including calculating interest, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of graphs.

Working Conditions: Required to travel to other Credit Union facilities and various locations for meetings and events, complete sight inspections around the greater Puget Sound area, and participate in in/out of state trainings upon request.

Work is performed in an office environment but also requires mobility within the office. Must be able to work during inclement weather conditions. This position may allow for the ability to work remotely.

Essential Functions * Use discretion and independent judgment in all areas of planning, implementation, communication, education, selling and follow-up of mortgage affinity business development activities. * Establish and develop outside contacts to promote mortgage loan referrals that meet established Salal Credit Union and FNMA guidelines. * Market Salal Credit Union mortgage loan products to affinity sources that will place Salal Credit Union as a primary lender to maintain new mortgage loan quality and volume. * Responsible for developing and enhancing affinity relationships. * Work with mortgage loan manager in developing and recommending and implementing marketing programs to increase volume of mortgage loans with affinity sources. * Analyze and monitor competition and be aware of other industry trends. * Provide education and communication to staff involved in the mortgage loan origination process. * Track business generated through marketing efforts via various reports and provide to management statistical data with regard to credit quality of loans purchased and application volumes. * Recommend enhancements to the mortgage products with regard to rate, term, advance, etc. to enhance marketing efforts. * Proactively refer members and prospective members to Personal Financial Representatives and Member Service Representatives by marketing all Credit Union products and services as opportunities are identified. * Complete all education, training and professional development required for position. * Demonstrate product knowledge and meet annual product and service certification requirements. * Enter identification into credit reporting software to generate credit reports as needed.
