Overview
The Senior Plumbing Design Engineer is responsible for assisting the Engineer Manager with administrative and training duties within the Engineering Department in each of our offices on a day-to-day basis. The Senior Plumbing Design Engineer will also be called upon as a key technical resource for the engineers and others within the company. In the technical advisor role, it is expected that the Senior Engineer assists in providing structured training and technical mentorship for the engineers within the department, along with project managers and project engineers. This person must have a deep understanding of the California State codes, as well as the intricacies of mechanical systems, and an overall knowledge of construction to create and timely deliver on all aspects of a project's design. A Design Engineer shall effectively and cohesively work with all team members and trade partners. The intent is to develop permits and construction documents while simultaneously providing field support and coordination.

Reports to: Engineering Manager
Responsibilities:
Design and draft various plumbing systems including but not limited to sanitary DMW, domestic hot & cold-water system, natural gas, storm system, process gases etc.
Conduct calculations, design and size water heaters, booster pumps, process gas generation equipment like VAC pumps, CDA compressor and dryer etc.
Perform Plumbing system design, and project planning for small and large projects
Effectively manage time to meet project deliverables and schedules
Represent United Mechanical as a design professional at project design meetings
Perform and document field surveys of existing site conditions and equipment
Present design options to United Mechanical project management, architect or client for resolution - prepare documentation (field design change requests, beyond normal scope reports, etc.), as required
Complete code required energy compliance documents and LEED calculations / certification
Create engineering drawings using the latest software
Provide effective and efficient equipment, and piping layouts
Do all related coordination with architects, clients, consultants and both In-house and out of house trades
Research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, and interference
Provide interpretations of all external codes, regulations, and specifications
Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction
Education Requirements and Relevant Skills
5-10 years' experience in the commercial construction space
4-year engineering degree or equivalent
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate preferred, but not required
Excellent understanding of engineering fundamentals
Must poses foundational knowledge on equipment sizing and related design criteria
Working knowledge of system types, equipment, installation standards and procedures is necessary
Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate with others is essential
Must be fully versed in local and State building codes
Must be proficient in use of Trace 700 and AutoCAD Version 2023 or later
Revit 2023 or BIM experience is preferred
Prior experience with mechanical contractor or engineering consultant preferred
