Senior Platform Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure (Finance Technology)

As a Capital One Senior Platform Engineer in the FinanceTechnology team, you'll be an integral part of our journey to moving our Finance application infrastructure out of our data centers and to the cloud; and reaching the goal of error-free operations. Requires a ability to identify manual tasks and use state of the art tools to automate these processes. Move away from traditional server configuration to making our infrastructure immutable by enforcing "infrastructure as code" concepts. Challenge status quo to provide guidance and governance to upstream teams so pipelines, testing, and monitoring are automated and comprehensive when rolled out into production. Very self-driven to configure operations more as a service rather than having dedicated manual support.

What you'll do:

  • Work with product owners to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios

  • Continuously improve software engineering practices

  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies

  • Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions

  • Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community

  • Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity

  • Effectively communicate guidelines and tool usage to delivery teams and other Technology team members

  • Participate in planning discussions with development and other Technology teams.

  • Maintain expertise in the areas of architecture, including industry trends, strategies, and products to ensure that our assets are effectively and efficiently utilized

  • Execute Proof of Concepts on behalf of infrastructure configuration management, CI/CD (continuous integration / continuous deployment) practice, assessing new products and methods, developing and implementing appropriate practices across multiple Dev/Test Streams

  • Continuously evaluate status quo and recommend areas of improvement

  • Partner with the enterprise teams across Capital One to prepare to bring to the table the latest in technology trends

  • Leverage monitoring tools to log incidents and build automated scripts to resolve issues

Key Skills/Experience:

  • Migration of applications to a cloud vendor such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

  • Standing up infrastructure as code rather than through manual installs

  • Automating operational processes across the board

Keywords:

Linux, Redhat, AWS, Jenkins, GitHub, Docker, Python, Monitoring, Zabbix, DataDog, Centrify, SSO, LDAP

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in infrastructureadministration

  • At least 2 years of experience working with SQL databases

  • At least 2 years of experience with Linux shell scripting

  • At least 2 years of experience supporting a COTS application

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • 1+ year experience with AWS
  • AWS Solutions Architect Certification
