This position will involve skilled inspectional work and plan reviews in securing and maintaining compliance with building codes and ordinances for residential and commercial projects.
Essential Functions
1.Examine plans and specifications for new construction, additions, and alterations to
residential and commercial buildings to determine compliance with the provisions of
applicable construction codes.
2.Conduct inspections of buildings and properties during construction, alteration, and repair to ensure conformance with adopted building codes and amendments.
3.Perform work with independent judgment and action within the framework of existing rules and regulations.
4.Attend and participate in meetings; and training as needed to stay apprised of new industry trends and innovations, including construction code changes.

Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in plan review, inspections, or an equivalent combination of educational certification, training and experience in construction practices and procedures.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively when responding to citizens and/or contractor's building code questions.
Ability to work well with other inspectors and plan reviewers to accomplish department goals.
Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a high school supplemented by vocational and technical courses in the building trades; considerable experience in the building trades as a contractor, superintendent, foreman, or inspector; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Certification or License: Applicants must have a valid driver's license.
Must obtain International Code Council (ICC) Certification(s) as Commercial and Residential Plans Examiner, Commercial and Residential Inspector within 12 months of date hired,
Physical Requirements
Required work will involve driving or sitting for extended periods of time, standing or walking, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis, and high dexterity in operating office equipment, including a keyboard, phone, etc.
The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision and the ability to hear and speak to understand, respond to, and build relationships with a diverse clientele.
