Positions in this function perform various duties related to the pharmacy prior authorization process. Positions in this function perform various duties related to the fulfillment of prescription orders. Interprets physicians' prescriptions and creates order, accesses, inputs, and retrieves prescription information from computer system, verifies whether order is reimbursable.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interprets physician's letters of medical necessity, inputs and retrieves prescription information from computer system

  • Consults with customers, patients, pharmacists and / or physicians regarding use of medications and formulary alternatives

  • Reviews and approves / pends requests for prescription authorizations

  • Dispenses any or all of the following: unit doses, specialty pharmaceuticals and injectables; may compound medications

  • Consults with customers, patients and / or physicians regarding use of medications and potential drug interactions

  • Consultations may be telephonic or in person

  • Reviews and approves / denies requests for prescription prior authorizations

  • Enter prescriptions and verifying appropriate information

  • Contacting patients, pharmacists and doctor's offices to resolve claims issues

  • Process prescriptions (from intake to order completion)

  • Resolve customer issues; ensuring accurate information is provided

  • Consistently meet established productivity, schedule adherence, and quality standards while maintaining a good attendance record

  • Extensive work experience within own function

  • Work is frequently completed without established procedures

  • Works independently

  • May act as a resource for others

  • May coordinate others activities

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)

  • 4 years of Pharmacy related experience

  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification

  • Previous experience working with Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system application

  • Continued employment is contingent upon successful Pharmacy Technician license registration as required

  • Available to work Tuesday

  • Saturday schedule (Tuesday

  • Friday schedule will 10:30 am

  • 7:00 pm CST and Saturday schedule will be 7:00 am

  • 3:30 pm CST)

  • Ability to remain focused and productive each day though tasks may be repetitive

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Frequent speaking, listening using a headset, sitting, use of hands / fingers across keyboard or mouse, handling other objects, long periods of close vision looking at a computer monitor

  • Service center environment with moderate noise level due to Representatives talking, computers, printers, floor activity

The primary purpose of the Investigational Pharmacy Service Specialty Technician position is to assist in the procurement, auditing, coordination (i.e Expiration/returns), delivery, and maintenance of investigational drugs. Other responsibilities include: receiving inventory, performing quality control checks, issuing, stocking, discrepancy resolution, and maintenance of records using applicable inventory control systems (i.e. Epic) associated with the maintenance and distribution of inventory for Dispensing Pharmacy areas. This is a PART-TIME position * Hours: Tuesday through Thursday 3:00PM - 11:00PM Weekend: 8:00AM-4:30PM Sunday 12:00PM - 4:00PM Key Functions Performs daily audits of the Investigational Drug/Supplies in the assigned areas to ensure accuracy and accountability including identification and resolution of system discrepancies Manages an adequate inventory in work areas. Includes but is not limited to supply/drug replacement, evaluation of usage/stock levels/re-orders, and adjustments if appropriate. Assists in the tracking of the drug returns, replacements, and management of expired inventory using specific databases and departmental tools. Continuously tracks inventory and isolates expired stock to ensure proper quarantine of unusable stock. Informs the pharmacy and sponsors of any upcoming expiration dates on any inventory currently in stock and encourages the use of those expiration dates first. Assists in processes of Drug Returns/Expired Medication Destruction and supplies according to sponsor, institutional, state and federal guidelines for handling of expired investigational drugs and supplies Manages and maintains protocol documentation as required by institutional, state, and federal guidelines. This includes but is not limited to Shipment Receipt Documentation, Epic transactions, documentation materials (i.e. labels, production cards) Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience Required: Two years experience of hospital Pharmacy Technician experience or four years as a Pharmacy Technician in a comparable setting. Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP). Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources. Preferred Experience: Experience in pharmacy or similar type work where conformance to proper technique and accuracy are essential. Working knowledge of pharmacy applications.
