General Summary:
Under general supervision, provides consultative, educational and direct support to the System as a continuous improvement expert. Uses continuous improvement methods to drive patient-centered organizational change.
Works with a high-degree of collaboration and independence to align improvements with organizational goals. Trains and coaches continuous improvement methods at all organizational levels. The role requires attention to detail and a strong acumen for data and measuring outcomes to ensure improvements are impactful and sustained.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1 Leads assigned units through adoption and implementation of continuous improvement methods, including lean daily management and assessing impact through development and evaluation of appropriate metrics.
2 Provides support for continuous improvement projects and project teams, including developing project plans and managing team processes.
3 Develops and redesigns process workflows and documents and analyzes value streams. Applies traditional lean tools and teaches and applies A3/PDSA problem-solving/thinking.
4 Uses data to drive decision-making and outcomes, including collection, analysis and dissemination of data and development of scorecards and other visual management tools.
5 Works with leadership teams to develop, track and implement annual operating plan goals tied to strategic plan objectives.
6 Focuses improvement efforts on strategic priorities including access, throughput, safety and service.
7 Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with management and staff, including collaboration to identify and resolve conflicts and barriers.
8 Effectively coaches others to apply continuous improvement methods, tools and change management techniques.
9 Plans, develops and delivers continuous improvement education and training.
10 Effectively transitions into and out of multiple settings, adjusting techniques and communication methods as needed.
11 Facilitates effective meetings and workshops using group process and problem-solving tools and techniques.
12 Provides consultation on effective change management strategies.
13 Manages project scope, schedule and budget using project management tools and techniques.
14 Utilizes IT applications for preparing status reports, progress updates and other documentation as requested.
15 Develops and presents to all organizational levels to further understanding and share results.
16 Stays current on continuous improvement marketplace trends and information with a focus on continued education.
17 Continuously evaluates improvement approaches and tools and those used in other industries, assesses feasibility of use and successfully adapts for internal use if warranted.
Required Skills
Bachelor's Degree in healthcare, business, information technology, engineering, or related field.
Lean certification, Six Sigma Black Belt or demonstrated equivalent experience in continuous improvement cycles of learning, including A3/PDS/CA
Required Experience
5+ years' experience in continuous or performance improvement in healthcare, service or industry required
Performance improvement, continuous improvement with lean application, lean six sigma experience required
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; demonstrated application of statistical analysis tools, excellent Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access; experience with SharePoint; skilled group facilitator and project manager
