The Opportunity…

This is an opportunity to join Segal's Financial Services unit as a Senior Payroll Associate (Senior Associate). As a Senior Associate, you will lead the processing of US, Pension, and Canada payrolls and be the subject matter expert on department matters. You will also serve as the liaison with the payroll vendor and collaborate with HR and other internal departments. This includes interpret payroll policies, ensure appropriate tax, benefits, and wage garnishments are calculated and withheld, and follow relevant internal controls to ensure compliance. You will assist in developing and documenting department processes and procedures.

You will work closely with the Payroll Manager and others in Financial Services to ensure that employees are paid accurately and that payroll-related reports are prepared promptly and accurately. The successful candidate will be a team player who works to meet his/her work commitments. They also contribute to the diversity, equity and inclusion of the business unit's and Company's work environment.

This position reports to the Payroll Manager and is based in the New York office, offering a flexible hybrid work schedule.

Key responsibilities include but may not be limited to…

  • Calculate and process payrolls to ensure timely and accurate paychecks.

  • Lead other department processes such as Yearly Bonus payroll and liase with payroll vendor on the Year End Payroll Processing schedules for W2s and T4s.

  • Verify employee state and local taxes are set up based on work location and deducted appropriately.

  • Process manual calculations for new hires, terminations, leave of absence, and salary increases for semi-monthly employees.

  • Manage electronic timekeeping system and/or manually collect and review timesheets for payroll.

  • Update and maintain employee payroll data in Vantage such as W4s, address changes, and direct deposit details.

  • Process prior quarter adjustments and amendments as needed.

  • Respond to payroll vendor inquiries and tax notices via Smart Compliance.

  • Create and update departmental SOPs as needed.

  • Run and distribute reports as needed.

  • Assist with special projects in the payroll function and Financial Services as assigned.

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience working in a professional service and/or progressive corporate environment.

  • High school diploma/GED and/or degree in Accounting or related quantitative discipline preferred.

  • Experience working in a payroll department performing a variety of administrative tasks that includes generating reports, analyzing and quality assuring payroll data, and interacting with employees and others to answer questions or resolve basic payroll issues.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and relevant financial software; intermediate proficiency in Excel. Experience with ADP Vantage, ADP Enterprise, ADP TeamPay, ADP Smart Compliance, Microsoft D365 a plus.

  • Ability to multi-task, detail oriented, quantitative/math skills, communication (verbal/written) skills, analytical and problem-solving skills.

The current salary range for this position is $72,000 to $80,000 plus opportunity for a discretionary performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
