Job Title: Senior Park Aide

Riverside State Parks Off Road Vehicle Area has a grant funded Senior Park Aide position, scheduled to work 40 hours a week. The position runs through September 30, 2025.

Riverside State Park Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) Area is located west of Spokane on Inland Road. This 600-acre multi-use area was set aside in the 1980s for all types of ORVs. The area has proven to be very popular for motorcycles, ATVs, four-wheelers and side by sides. The terrain provides hill climbs, sand areas and trails through wooded areas. The area includes restrooms, picnic tables and shelters, parking and a loading/unloading ramp. The area is open year-round.

Senior Park Aides perform a variety of tasks at the Off-Road Vehicle Area.  A typical workday may include anything from cleaning facilities, performing ground maintenance and minor repairs on roads, trails, and equipment.

Under supervision, this position is essential to the state parks mission of operating, enhancing, and protecting our Parks recreational, cultural, historical, and natural sites. This position will assist and contribute toward all aspects of park operations and will lead work responsibilities.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead Park Aides.

  • Performs ground maintenance and cleanin gof all park facilities, including picnic sites, trails, and road.

  • Daily inspections and cleaning of comfort stations, vault toilets, kitchen/picnic shelters, and other agency facilities and grounds.

  • Provides clean environments for park users by keeping grounds free of litter, debris, or illegal garbage dumps, etc.

  • Performs maintenance and light repairs on all park trails, picnic areas and fences and equipment.

  • Performs grounds keeping maintenance using power and hand tools to clear brush and trees, prune shrubs, rake leaves.

  • Operates various equipment such as mowers, aerators, edger's, trimmers, chainsaws, sod cutters, pressure washers, backpack blowers, etc.

  • General repairs and maintenance of buildings, facilities, equipment, and utility systems.

  • Provides park information to visitors and answer phones.

  • Performs monthly safety meetings and facility inspections.

  • Assists with working with volunteers.

  • Assists with grant tracking and attendance collection.

  • Performs snow removal.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Twelve (12) months of experience in building maintenance or grounds keeping, or performing semi-skilled/general carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing repair work.

OR

  • Six (6) months cumulative experience as a Park Aide (or equivalent)

OR

  • Twelve (12) months experience in a special employment program (Washington Conservation Corps) with a parks agency.  A combination of experience (WCC and Park Aide) may be used provided candidate has at least three months experience as a Park Aide (or equivalent).

AND

  • A valid unrestricted (except for corrective lenses) driver's license.

  • At least 18 years old.

DESIRED QUALIFICATION:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to work independently or lead others while using good judgement and problem-solving skills in decision making.

  • Knowledge of horticultural and gardening. 

UNIFORM INFORMATION:

All non-permanent and temporary Senior Park Aides are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Senior Park Aide and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks' employee. This position will receive 2 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after year 1), 1 jacket (per 3 calendar years), 1 baseball cap, 1 beanie or knit hat, 1 brim hat, and a clothing stipend of $75.00 per calendar year. Stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.
