Senior Paralegal-Responsible for directly and independently supporting two or more Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA), by providing a wide variety of Paralegal services.
Examine, prepare and process a variety of technical legal documents, e.g., complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, and subpoenas.
Obtains needed information from files, law enforcement agencies, or other sources, and submits completed legal documents to the appropriate AUSA. With limited instructions from the AUSA, prepares such legal actions as indictments, criminal complaints, search warrants, judgments, applications, notices, affidavits, summonses, grand jury subpoenas, rules to show cause, proofs of claim, and satisfaction of judgment.
Conduct interviews of agents and potential witnesses to assist the AUSA in preparation for grand jury or trial; reviews, summarizes and outlines grand jury and or trial testimony to assist the AUSA in preparation for grand jury or trial
Research, analyze and summarize relevant legal precedents for applicability to assigned cases; and prepares digest of points of law involved; analyzes appellate records to isolate facts pertinent to distinct legal issues.
Selects, summarizes, and compiles comparative data to examine and evaluate respondent's deficiencies to provide evidence of illegal practices or patterns;
Review economic trends and forecasts at the national and regional level to evaluate the impact of successful prosecution and potential remedial provisions of ongoing investigations and litigation;
Identify types of recordkeeping systems and types of records maintained which would be relevant to providing violations; gathers, sorts and interprets data from various record systems including computer information systems of business and labor organizations to substantiate questionable patterns of systemic discrimination in cases under investigation
Review title commitments for accuracy. Create a deed history summary.
Prepare Amended Declarations of Taking (ADT) Reports, Joint Motions to Close, and Motions to Suppress; summarize depositions and other transcripts; maintain case files; and control exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial for 102 cases.
Provide litigative case management and organizes cases for court presentation by preparing and organizing exhibits containing a variety of visual material, e.g., statistical charts and photographs. Notes deficiencies in case materials, e.g., missing documents, conflicting statements, and request further investigation by investigative personnel to correct deficiencies, or personally conducts limited investigations at the pre-trial stage.
Analyze data, develops recommendations and justifications for the attorney(s) who will take the matter to court. Continues to work with the attorney(s) during the progress of the case, obtaining and developing further evidence and exhibits, providing administrative assistance, and maintaining custody of exhibits, documents, and files.
Monitor the progress of pending cases and initiates action to ensure that legal pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, and other documents are prepared and submitted within established deadlines. Works closely with assigned attorney(s) to insure material is efficiently arranged. Produces and provides to the attorney the appropriate legal documents, information, exhibits, or witnesses at the appropriate time during those court proceedings.
Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook).
Ability to use, understand and maintain directories, personnel lists and other guides and references to provide a variety of information on the office and to refer questions to other offices.
Ability to meet and deal with people in a courteous and tactful manner.
Ability to operate a computer terminal, personal computer, various office machines (fax, scanner, copier, etc.).
Ability to provide automated litigation assistance to attorney(s).
Utilize various software applications and graphics hardware such as scanners and plotters.
Ability to prepare documents, charts, and visual materials for use in trials.
Ability to provide technical support e.g., enlarging charts and photographs, duplicating tapes and videos, and marking exhibits
