Position Summary

This position, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, will support the Human Resources Legal Support attorneys in the Office of General Counsel, with a focus on labor arbitrations, administrative agency claims (EEOC, NLRB, DOL, etc.), employee benefits, and legal research.


  • Prepares legal documents such as subpoena responses, litigation holds, position statements to state and federal agencies, responses to union requests for information, arbitration briefs, and other litigation related documents in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.

  • Conducts legal research, reviews applicable legal principles and precedents and drafts memoranda, charts, or other documents with attention to detail.

  • Investigates facts and gathers documents from existing files, electronic media, and through inquiries of various departments throughout the company; organizes and coordinates information that has been gathered; drafts summaries.

  • Assists with preparing witnesses for arbitrations and hearings, and interviews witnesses to gather information; prepares exhibits and witness preparation materials.

  • Assists outside counsel as needed.

  • Develops and maintains SharePoint sites as needed.

  • Interacts with external attorneys, administrative agencies, arbitrators, as well as internal human resources professionals, members of management, and other in-house attorneys in a respectful and professional manner.

  • Initiates and completes assigned projects as instructed and with a sense of urgency.

  • Assists attorneys with other related assignments.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Paralegal certificate, or at least 7 years of experience with an in-house legal department or law firm and obtaining a Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate within a reasonable amount of time

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of computer applications, specifically Microsoft office products such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience with drafting legal documents

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Five (5) or more years of labor and employment experience

  • Familiarity with applicable state and federal rules, particularly relating to labor and employment law

  • Regulated industry or utility experience

  • Experience with managing e-discovery, including initiating and administering confidential legal holds

  • Experience with e-discovery systems

  • Notary Public

  • Proficient with Lexis Nexis legal research tools, including specific labor and employment tools

  • Experience working in a corporate legal department

  • Demonstrated clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications skills

  • Ability to appropriately handle highly confidential and proprietary information

  • Attention to detail, accuracy, adaptability, and flexibility in handling multiple tasks, often under time constraints

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate work while being proactive, taking initiative and exhibiting sound judgment

  • Demonstrated independent judgment, problem solving, decision making and analytical skills

  • Ability to stay focused, engaged, and following through on assignments on all directives in a timely and professional manner

  • Holds self-accountable for complete, accurate, and timely work results

  • Exhibits thorough research skills

  • Exercises professional judgment, integrity, respect, and professionalism

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of SharePoint

  • Experience with document management and matter management systems
