JOB TITLE: Senior Owner Controlled Insurance Programs Administration Claims

SALARY RANGE: $85,000 - $90,000

SUPERVISOR: Acting Deputy Director, OCIP

LOCATION: 2 Broadway, New York, NY

HOURS OF WORK:8:00 am - 4:30 pm (7 1/2 hours/day)

DEADLINE: Open until filled

This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

SUMMARY:

Position is responsible for managing claims associated with the MTA's Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP), including, but not limited to Casualty, Workers Compensation, Builders' Risk, etc, managing Third-Party Administrators (TPA) administrative functions for the OCIP Claims Division of the Risk Management Department. This includes, but is not limited to, the effective and efficient management of claim information input into the Claims database system and accurate and timely management and processing of the financial transactions and statistical information pertaining to the OCIP Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all financial aspects of the TPA program, including review, confirmation, approval and maintenance of all financial transactions, including TPA settlements, counsel invoices, expense invoices and issue checks. Maintain and reconcile MTA FMTAC OCIP policies, claims, and accounts checking accounts.

  • Perform initial investigations of TPA claims, including but not limited to identifying appropriate insurance coverage, securing documentation from various departments, MTA Security for surveillance video, contacting MTA, for claim/claimant information.

  • Produce and reconcile all periodic, monthly, status and, as well as loss runs.

  • Review settlement payments and follow-up to ensure payments are timely made.

  • Assist Claim adjuster and Claims secretaries as necessary, including answering phones and other administrative tasks and functions at the direction of Asst. and/or Director-Claims & Investigations.

  • Tendering of claims for excluded coverages.

  • Responsible for timely responding to discoveries.

  • Participate in claims review.

  • Periodic communication with broker and counsels on open claims. Assess open claims and discuss with Manager on close out/settlement strategies.

  • Initiate accident investigation, surveillance and social media

  • Assign Out Counsel for WC GL.

  • Participate with discovery request from OCIP Counsel and respond to request for witnesses from OCIP Counsel

  • Respond to FOIL request.

  • Participate in Weekly, Monthly, and Semi-Annual claims reviews with an action items log.

  • Participate in ADR on selected project.

  • Maintain an OCIP claims log.

  • Participate in claims field visits.

  • Create invoices and forms for OCIP claim payments.

  • Assist with insurance language updates to contracts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience working in a fast paced, time sensitive environment

  • Accounting and Financial experience

  • Experience in Excel and software applications for creating financial and data reports

  • Strong computer skills, utilizing various software applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite) and databases

  • Must possess a strong work ethic and professional integrity and confidentiality

  • Must be organized and detail-oriented. Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize the workload

  • Must possess good interpersonal skills. Strong oral and written communication skills are required

  • Must be a competent typist (minimum of 40 words per minute

  • Must understand all lines on insurance programs and insurance policies

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from an accredited college may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Minimum 4 years related experience.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in a related field.

  • Familiarity with the MTA's policies and procedures.

  • Certified Paralegal

  • Certified Claim Professional
