Waters Corporation is seeking a strong technical contributor to fill a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer position within the Systems Development Engineering Group.
The Opto-Mechanical Engineer will work with Scientists and Mechanical Engineers involved in rapid prototyping of analytical instrumentation. This role is responsible for creating functional opto-mechanical designs for spectroscopic applications related to High Performance Liquid Chromatography. You will be part of a small multi-disciplinary team whose role is to develop proof-of-concept prototype instruments. These systems will be used to solve some of the world's most intractable analytical problems utilizing liquid chromatographic separations.
Work with scientists and lead project engineers to develop, evaluate and qualify mechanical and optomechanical assemblies, components, materials, processes and/or processing equipment for incorporation into new product designs.
Analyze designs before and during development using analysis tools such as FEA, CFD and CAD.
Demonstrate feasibility of designs to fulfill prescribed requirements with test data and supplemental analysis to justify design approaches.
Provide technical analysis support and guidance to team members and other development groups to implement designs with proven feasibility into commercial products while ensuring conformance to company and customer requirements.
Minimum is a Bachelor's Degree in Optical or Mechanical Engineering (MSME preferred) or related field of study.
Minimum 5 years industry experience (BS) or 3 years industy experience (MS) in optomechanical engineering design pertaining to scientific instruments or medical device products.
Proficiency with 3D Solid Modeling (SolidWorks preferred or UG NX), Finite Element Analysis and Computation Fluid Dynamics.
Experience with a variety of analysis and evaluation tools such as data acquisition systems for temperature, pressure transducers, and optical measurement devices.
Ability to collaborate effectively within and outside of team, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with superiors, peers, suppliers and customers.
Ability to function in a dynamic environment where project plans and priorities can change quickly.
Familiarity in HPLC, MEMS or microfluidics technology with interdisciplinary engineering and/or systems is desired.
Working knowledge of optics, ray tracing, and optical metrology is highly desired.
