About the role:

Cruise is looking for a looking for a top-notch opto-mechanical engineer to contribute to our world-class sensor programs to help our autonomous cars drive in the world around them. The ideal candidate would have experience with the design, analysis, development, and manufacturing of opto-mechanical and electro-optical systems.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Design and analysis of Opto-Mechanical systems, subsystems, and components for imaging and ranging optical sensor systems.

  • Develop component, assembly, calibration, and test specifications and execute tests.

  • Lead design verification and validation efforts.

  • Define quality requirements and test criteria to produce components, assemblies, and systems.

  • Develop, improve, and sustain reliable sensor testing processes through continuous integration, and automated testing.

  • Evaluate and develop new and novel optoelectronic sensor technologies and their impact on system performance.

  • Perform analysis as required to support fielded systems.

  • Work closely with partners and suppliers to ensure timely, effective, sensor solutions.

You should apply for this role if you have the following qualifications:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in engineering, optics, science, or related field

  • 3+ years of industry experience

  • Ability to understand complex technical systems

  • Ability to adapt and operate under ambiguity

  • Strong technical and nontechnical communication skills

  • Ability to identify and act on opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency

Bonus Points!

  • Experience working with automotive OEMs, and Tier 1 and 2 suppliers.

  • Experience with ADAS or ASIL systems.

  • Experience across the product life cycle from concept through manufacturing and fielded systems.

  • Experience with Code V, Zemax, Stray light analysis (Lighttools or Fred)

  • Experience with Mechanical Design

  • Experience with analyzing data and developing tools in Matlab and Python.

The Opportunity PCH is looking for sharp, technical and detail-oriented individuals who can lead small mechanical engineering teams in the design and development of high-end consumer products. This person interfaces with client teams on a regular basis and their mechanical design expertise will project and inspire confidence to both clients and internal team members. The ideal candidate will have proven success acting as a technical lead on electro-mechanical consumer product development. Defining characteristics of the ideal candidate include: * Excellent CAD skills in SolidWorks - create and use surfaces, master-models, manage and maintain large assemblies * Strong foundation in mechanical analysis - free body diagrams, strength calculations, static and dynamic FEA, multi-part tolerance stack analysis, thermal and fluid analysis * Proven experience creating robust mechanical architectures - develop performance specifications and design to them with known factors of safety and minimum BOM cost; produce designs that optimize ID goals without sacrificing mechanical integrity; create solutions that allow for performance tuning in future development phases with minimal impact to ID or cost * Expertise in part design - knowledge of plastic and metal materials, insert molding and multiple shots, stiffness and warp management, custom illumination effects, plating/coating/finishing options, stampings, deep-drawings, die-casting, MIM, extrusions, optimizing cosmetic quality, and command of DFM practices * Experience integrating CE product technologies - motors, gear-trains, sensors, optical systems, thermal systems, microphones and speakers, fluid valving and sealing strategies, displays, foams, tapes and springs * Clear and effective communication skills - convey engineering expertise with clients, external ID partners, in-house engineers, manufacturing partners and project managers; confidently put forth design recommendations to clients based on clear rationale; articulate technical risks and mitigation plans as the lead technical decision-maker on a project If it can be imagined, it can be made.
