Senior Optical Engineer SME

Radiance Technologies, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking candidates for a Senior Optical Engineer position. The Senior Optical Engineer will provide technical support to a U.S. Space Force satellite constellation development contract. This position requires a talented Senior Optical Engineer SME that can work with a multi-disciplined team to perform engineering analysis to support all phases of the system lifecycle, including requirements development, design, development, and test and evaluation. The primary focus of the engineer will be advising Space Group technical teams on engineering projects to ensure technical planning & execution at the heighted level. He/she will also be required to assist a team with requirements definition; Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A); Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL); simulations; development; integration activities; and operations. This specific effort will entail support to develop 2D and 3D detection & tracking algorithms utilizing space-based thermal imaging systems as well as providing physics-based modeling of end-to-end missions. This will also include implementation of multiple modeling scenarios that include, but not limited to, Monte Carlo controlled scenario-based analysis of the satellite design's ability to meet requirements.

Required Skills:

• PhD in Optical Engineering/Science, Laser Engineering, Electro-Optics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or relevant technical field with a minimum of 20 years direct experience on DoD programs.

• US Citizen with a current DoD Secret security clearance or ability to obtain a security clearance.

• Ability to work in a dynamic environment.

• Self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Excellent organizational skills.

• Ability to serve as a technical advisor, mentor, or contributor on multiple programs.

Required Experience:

• Demonstrated proficiency in optics design and setup, instrumentation design and setup, and data capture and analysis.

• Demonstrated proficiency using tools such as Zemax, MATLAB, LabVIEW, and Image/Data Acquisition software.

• Experience with synthetic image generation software.

• Demonstrated proficiency using a variety of optical metrology equipment.

• Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Agile software development principles and practices.

• Experience with Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

• Experience creating and managing design and development documentation.

Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to design, integrate, and test optical systems for ISR systems.

• Demonstrated ability to design, integrate, and test electrical circuits related to the operation and control of optical systems.

• Demonstrated ability to assist customers with sensor design and selection.

• Physics and modeling experience with laser/material interaction.

• Experience performing thermal modeling and analysis.

• Experience with satellite design and development programs.
