This Senior Optical Engineer position is within the Simulation Solutions & Services (SS&S) business area. SS&S develops and builds simulators and training systems for both military and commercial customers. Devices range in complexity from desktop trainers to high-fidelity weapon systems and full-flight training systems.

The ideal candidate will have experience design and implement complex systems. Versatility and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and ability to adapt to changing priorities is highly desired. This role will work in a team environment and have the opportunity to work with multi-disciplined Engineering teams. This position is located onsite in Carlsbad, CA. May be eligible for relocation.

What you will do:

• The candidate will apply their knowledge and experience to design and develop high-precision optical and visual display systems for use in aviation, spacecraft and head worn applications.

• The candidate will be responsible for design and development of high-precision optical assemblies from concept to manufacturing and test.

• The candidate will be responsible for optical design, optimization, analyses, and optical performance characterization.

• The candidate will determine the methods of testing, maintenance, and repair for the systems they design.

• Candidate will document test processes, procedures, and methods for the systems they design.

• The candidate will work closely with a multidiscipline team including optical, mechanical, systems and electrical engineers.

Skills you must have:

• The candidate must have strong technical knowledge and good analytical skills.

• The candidate must be familiar with Zemax, MatLab and Excel.

Education and experience:

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

• U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
