Information Technology Services (ITS) at Syracuse University seeks applicants for a Senior Network Engineer. The position is responsible for design, architecture and development of the University's large scale, complex network, which spans 150 buildings. The Senior Network engineer monitors, maintains, improves and upgrades the campus network consisting of chassis based backbone routers, 2000 switches and an Internet edge connected to three ISP's. The network also includes two datacenters connected by a fabric based network. The wireless network consists of 5,000 access points, multiple controllers and supporting servers in an HA configuration. The successful candidate will research, evaluate and propose new technologies and provide third tier troubleshooting support of complex problems. Additionally, the position is expected to manage small to medium sizes projects with minimal supervision. The Senior Network Engineer works with ITS staff, other campus IT professionals, and vendors to assure the smooth delivery of services.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three (3+) plus years of relevant experience in networking technologies.
Job Specific Qualifications
Experience with and in depth knowledge of TCP/IP, Routing protocols and packet capturing and analysis.
Network design and architecture experience in a large enterprise environment.
Additional, strongly desired qualifications: DNS, DHCP, VoIP, SIP, Video, SQL. Familiarity with SNMP and network management applications. Knowledge of NAC, NAT, RADIUS and Linux.
Responsibilities
Work with ITS and other campus offices to analyze information and recommend solutions on networking issues. This involves an in depth understanding of networking related technologies as well as the ability to effectively communicate with users, analyze needs and document requirements.
Plan, organize and coordinate the development and/or deployment of networking and computing solutions.
Ability to handle small to medium sized project with minimal supervision.
Trouble-shoot and resolve complex technical problems.
Develop and document technology for application system, and/or internal procedures to support network technologies.
Use advanced software and technical expertise to monitor, provide backup and recovery and improve performance for application/database/server performance.
Install operating systems/system, software/database management, and software/client software.
