Network Engineers at Riot support our global player base by using their expertise to build efficient infrastructure solutions. We keep up to date on networking technology and development trends, and provide solutions towards the continuous evolution of Riot's global infrastructure. Responsibilities span from design, implementation, and administration of high performance networking systems.

The Infrastructure Platform (IP) Initiative is a part of our Platform Group that builds and hosts global game services at scale, while also developing the infrastructure around it through the use of third party technologies partnered with proprietary software.

As a Senior Network Engineer on the Data Center Operations team within the IP initiative, you will be an authority in developing scalable and available network infrastructure that connects our player facing services to Riot's backbone network. You specialize in coding or scripting to build tools that monitor network health, respond to events, or automate repetitive tasks. You'll provide operational support, bug evaluation, break/fix, and incident resolution for important issues. You'll collaborate with a passionate team of systems engineers and physical infrastructure technicians. We combine expertise in networking, systems, and developer tooling to automate the way we store, process, and distribute data for League of Legends, while also paving the road for future games.


  • Deploy and manage physical network devices within Riot data centers

  • Develop and maintain automation that orchestrates management of network devices

  • Architect Riot's data centers from physical assets (servers, network devices, rack design) through to location and global connectivity

  • Provide feedback on technical standards and participate in propose improvements to technical and product leadership

  • Create comprehensive user documentation around your implemented solutions

  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support, enhancements, and documentation in existing systems

  • Mentor and lead other Rioters with dedication to collective learning and growth

  • Provide both remote and onsite support through an on-call rotation to ensure high levels of network uptime

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of industry experience

  • Experience with networking systems protocols, software and technologies including: routers, switches, load balancers and WAN/VLANs, etc. in a distributed environment.

  • Knowledge of routing (BGP), protocols (TCP/IP), and tools (ping, tracert)

  • Expert level knowledge in at least TWO of the following and strong knowledge in all the areas of:

  • Dynamic IP Routing protocols (BGP, ISIS, OSPF, MPLS)

  • Expertise on the latest Juniper hardware and operating systems

  • Virtualization technologies, both networking (MPLS, VRF, VDC) and compute (VMware, Openstack)

  • In-depth knowledge of network management and network availability

  • Understand WAN/LAN/DMZ/etc., VPN's, TCP/IP and DNS

  • Proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages, e.g.: Python, Terraform, Ansible, SQL, C/C++

Job Summary The Provider Network Operations Data Support Specialist I assists the Provider Network Operations (PNO) core systems and 5 business programs. This position is responsible to assist in the monitoring of ongoing systems status, trouble-shooting, overviewing electronic data file exchanges, reconciling data received with data accepted and/or rejected for the Provider Sync and other processes. The tasks including data quality assurance, process development, specification documentation and report developing. The position applies technical skills and systems skills to maintain system efficiency, troubleshoot operational problems, report on systems problems, plan for systems conversions and upgrades, support design, development, and generation of ad hoc or production reports from self-service reporting systems or in conjunction with the reporting team. The data analysis/integration projects are those which may require periodic maintenance on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannual, or annual basis. The position works with QNXT, MHC, and MPD systems teams to assist in the planning, testing, and pre-deployment activities which are executed fully to a high standard. The Data Support Specialist may collaborate with Information Technology analysts and key staff from Membership and finance to verify processes, policy, and related data. The position interprets and documents both written and verbal systems, business, and report specifications. The position takes basic instructions, requirements, specifications and assists other department members in driving positive business outcomes, which may include: interviewing key staff to ensure that they are providing reporting and guidance on core processes. With support, the position will work with several departments across the organization to ensure smooth operattions including, enrollment, membership, encounters, and finance. Duties Provide PNP Data Support Specialist II and other team members to provide provider data advice on key business processes and system functionality (MPD, QNXT, and MHC) to users in other departments. Support team in providing key input on troubleshooting and errors from a processes and systems (MPD, QNXT, and MHC) perspective. Work with cross-functional teams to resolve errors in a accurate and timely manner. Work with the I.T. support teams to identify issues, develop solutions, and deploy changes to production. Communicate with stakeholders/clients/collaborators regarding project details and plans.
