The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior Network Systems Engineer (Level 5) is needed for several Phantom Works programs at the El Segundo location.

The position will be based in Huntington Beach and move to El Segundo before the end of 2019.

Position Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing advanced network protocols, routing, Quality of Service, and a deep understanding of network theory backed by relevant education and/or specialization training.

  • Use of network communication concepts, principles and architectures, associated with network planning, design, integration and maintenance.

  • Develop End-to-end knowledge of network transport technologies, systems, environments, services, protocols, performance monitoring and diagnostic analysis.

  • Building computing systems from a variety of components to provide a business solution, including the ability to integrate application components and databases across computing platforms.

  • Application of the methodology and processes associated with risk management, conducting trade studies including cost as an independent variable (CAIV) trades.

  • Mentor and coach less experienced personnel to apply risk management and performance measures, identify and quantity potential risks areas within specific (depth) and across multiple engineering disciplines (breadth), understand design constraints (technical, cost & schedule), identify and trade alternatives (i.e., trade studies), select/recommend the best plan for mitigating complex risks, implement/execute plans for mitigating risk and establish appropriate performance tracking metrics to track risk burndown over time.

Qualifications

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic (Required) Qualifications

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in an engineering discipline.

  • 10+ years of experience designing and implementing advanced network protocols, routing, and Quality of Service.

  • Hand-on system integration, prototyping, and troubleshooting skills including lab and field activities.

Preferred (Desired) Qualifications

  • Candidate must have the ability to maintain DoD Top Secret security clearance.

  • Deep understanding of network theory backed by relevant education and/or specialization training.

  • Proven successful proposal writing skills.

  • Familiarity with the DoD system engineering processes, practices, product development and acquisition lifecycle.

  • Ability to prototype software using modern algorithmic and scripting languages (C, C++, Python) is a plus.

  • Familiarity with design principles of modern networking layers is a plus.

  • Knowledge of network communication concepts, principles and architectures, associated with network planning, design, integration and maintenance.

  • End-to-end knowledge of network transport technologies, systems, environments, services, protocols, performance monitoring and diagnostic analysis.

Typical Education/Experience

Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Responsibilities We are seeking a Senior Network Systems Engineer specializing in the areas of Space and Ground network architecture definition, network requirements analysis & development, networking modeling and simulation, network performance analysis, and mission management system development. NSD supports the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and other US Government, and Civil/Commercial customers in the design, analysis, modeling, simulation, and anomaly resolution of space and ground communication networks. You will play a vital role in leading technical teams and providing subject technical expertise in the areas of Communication and Network systems to ensure mission objectives are achieved. Key Functions * Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary engineering teams in the development and analysis of Space and Ground network architectures and requirements * Lead in various network systems engineering tasks and projects through network systems architecture definition, development, analysis, modeling & simulation, and prototype development/validation * Lead in the development of innovative concepts and algorithms in supporting areas of network/mission management systems, network routing, network mobility, network performance/reliability analysis, traffic modeling, software-defined networking, network protocols, network resiliency, and network security * Develop tools and models that support network system design and analysis activities * Identify and develop new business opportunities with new and existing customers * Provide independent technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to less experienced staff * Coordinate tasks and participate in technical meetings for SMC, NRO, and Civil & Commercial customers working closely with members of a diverse team comprising military officers and Government civilians, prime contractors, SE&I contractors and other FFRDCs * Present technical and project status briefings to management and customers * Lead specialized technical studies and internal research and development (R&D) projects to develop the next generation of Space and Ground network concepts, architectures, and technologies * Support sustainment and development of core network simulation, emulation, and modeling capabilities Qualifications Required * Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another related discipline * Minimum 8 years of experience in network systems design, development, configuration, integration, deployment, and troubleshooting * Strong technical background in Satellite and Ground network systems, network protocols, network security, and network management * Experience in developing, leading, and working on multi-disciplinary engineering teams * Leadership experience in developing complex Space and Ground network architectures and requirements * In-depth understanding of emerging communication and network technologies * Excellent verbal and written English language skills, effective communication skills, and ability to interact well in group meeting/working environments * Ability to present results effectively in briefings and technical reports * Ability to obtain a security clearance which is issued by the U.S. government.
