Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Step into the heart of cutting-edge satellite communications as a Senior Engineer! This exciting role places you at the forefront of Iridium's Technical Verification Center, where you'll be responsible for real-time troubleshooting and support. With 32 tracking antennas strategically positioned across the globe and a web of switches, routers, and tunnels connecting our ground stations, operations centers, and satellites, you'll be immersed in a world of Telemetry, Tracking & Control (TT&C) like never before. What You'll Do:

  • Work independently to research, analyze, and compile technical data for company products and system-level concepts in the projected operational environments to optimize effectiveness over the program lifecycle

  • Apply systems engineering processes, methodologies, and tools to the design of systems and new product development

  • Play a key role in the development of architectures, functional requirements, refinements, and product designs

  • Evaluate existing software tool suites and maintenance procedures and develop a technical refresh timeline and path towards modernization and increased efficiencies

  • Lead team members in the integration of technical, cost, value, risks, and specialty engineering considerations into the definition of the product

  • Perform technical planning and control; maintain and improve processes and software tools.

  • Lead remote site troubleshooting and assist the site technicians with executing established procedures

  • Execute teleport network maintenance activities in support of operations

  • Perform teleport network subsystem trending and analysis and report findings to team Teleport Network Operations Team Lead

  • Represent the Operations and Maintenance team during cross-functional team discussions to ensure seamless system integration and comprehensive testing.

  • Address sustainment and obsolescence challenges and coordinate with stakeholders to develop alternative solutions to guarantee reliability and continued product effectiveness for all Iridium offerings.

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other IT degree field

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in a network operations or spacecraft operations environment

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) applications, schematic reading, and troubleshooting with a focus on optimizing system Up and Down link performance.

  • Highly skilled in analyzing, configuring, and monitoring precision GPS/Network Timing systems - making technical recommendations for upgrading and redesigning against changing user requirements.

  • Use advanced knowledge of and ability to operate complex Radio Frequency test equipment such as PXA Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, and Power meters (Analog and Digital)

  • Understanding of Python and or PERL scripting and the ability to create/write automated scripts to perform routine sub-functions and automated testing.

  • Proficiency in the LINUX operating system, as well as standard PC usage and applications

  • Proficiency in the RedHat 8 operating system,

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic

  • Have confidence and be able to easily build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of your team

  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions

  • Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others

  • Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Familiarity with software development and programming

  • Understanding and competent with AGILE, JIRA, and Project Management.

  • Familiarity with Network and System securities and configurations

  • Familiarity with Network Security with respect to both Commercial and Government security policies and processes.

  • Ideal candidates will have the ability to develop troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and work under tight time constraints

We'll also need you to:

  • Be able to lift up to 60 lbs.

  • Be able to travel up to 25%

  • Be a U.S. Citizen

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. At times, this role will require climbing up onto the antenna system to remove or replace equipment and/or Hardware or may require the use of power and/or hand tools. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For in person meetings, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
