Position Summary

Following established Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes, a Developer analyzes, models, writes/modifies, and supports software source code that enables business capabilities.

Key Duties / Responsibilities - Essential duties are identified by asterisks.

Delivers personal tasks on time and leads the delivery of tasks for natural workgroup

Applies excellent modeling principles and practices

Participates on initiatives, with deliverables and meets quality standards, on time

Leads initiatives, with deliverables and meets quality standards, on time

Develops Applications / Reports / Systems

Estimates component/application level work efforts

Creates Application and System Design Documents

Creates RFI/RFP requests / responses for vendor product evaluations

Experience in multiple SDLC methodologies

Technically proficient in application/component; may act as internal consultant

Responsible for fulfilling end-user requests

Good communication and facilitation skills

Provides on call support as required

Good business acumen

Periodically operates under deadlines and may be subject to extreme workloads

Works with supervision, minimal supervision, or without supervision

Education & Knowledge Required

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

Experience / Skills / Abilities Required
4+ Years with Bachelor's degree or 10+ years' work experience. Experience with SQL Server, .Net development and Windows services.

ABOUT THIS POSITION Designs, develops and performs maintenance of Kemper's Line-of-Business Software Applications. Works closely with Software Engineers and Architects in the development of system components. Works independently on tactical assignments. SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES: 1. Designs and develops software applications and model relational databases both independently as well as in a team on complex systems. 3 Demonstrated understanding of software applications and infrastructure architecture through business unit production implementations. 4. Utilizes programming & technical Skills in various languages and products currently used by the company as specified for the position as well as languages and products that are common for the industry. Researches and recommends new software products. Utilizes Java, J2EE, Javascript, Spring, C#, C/C++, Hibernate, Tibco (AMX, BW, BE), Webservices, Subversion, Jenkins, Oracle11g, SQL, iPlanet and/or JBOSS webserver and markup languages such as HTML, CSS, XML, JSON. 5. Writes unit tests and performs integration testing to ensure high application quality that meets business requirements. 6. Maintains as understanding of various deployment methods, tools and writes scripts and/or procedures for efficient processes. 7. Maintains an understanding of Infinity systems, database and networking. Maintains an understanding of the IT assets interoperability with custom software development. 8. Other duties as assigned. 9. Regular predictable attendance required. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related area of study. 2. Two or more years of experience in a position performing software development. 3. Understanding of Object Oriented Concepts and Software Development Life Cycles required. 4. Competency in various tools and frameworks used by Infinity specified for the position such as Eclipse, Struts, JSF, Grails, Foundations. 5. Proven record of new application development with minimal mentoring and supervision. 6. Has or quickly learns insurance knowledge in the topics of Policies, Agents, Claims and Products as well as Business knowledge in Operations, Finance and Marketing/Sales.
