LOOKING FOR: A self-driven, senior level candidate with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance to join our AMERICAN SYSTEMS Simulation and Systems team as a Senior Naval Architect in Washington, DC. Candidate will be supporting the United States Coast Guard.

As a Senior Naval Architect you will:

  • Work within the Systems and Simulations Division to provide naval architectural support to the United States Coast Guard.

A week in the life of a Senior Naval Architect:

  • Provide HM&E engineering support services to the USCG in Washington, DC.

  • Provide technical support in the following areas: vessel Hull Form and stability, Weights, Structures, Powering and Resistance, and Propulsion.

  • Support the US Coast Guard by providing technical assessments of shipbuilder design deliverables, support in development of HM&E systems specifications, support in development of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) and Data Item Description (DID) documents.

  • Develop Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) & Engineering Changes (EC), draft Statements of Work and cost estimates in support of post-delivery activities, and work on ship construction and repair specifications.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in Icebreaker Design and Construction Standards and Icebreaking aspects of vessel Hull Form, Structures, Powering and Resistance, and Propulsion.

  • Support the government in developing technical responses to contractor's questions.

  • Provide technical support to assist the government in development of HM&E and Auxiliary System Specification.

  • Provide support which includes updating the System Specification, SOW, CDRLs, and Indicative Design to adjudicate issues.

  • Author trade studies for the WCC indicative design.

  • Draft System Specification for HM&E systems for WCC RFP Release.

  • Maintain master equipment list for the WCC indicative.

  • Provide subject matter expertise reviewing OPC construction CDRLs.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering or related discipline

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance

At least 10+ years of experience in:

  • Engineering disciplines related to ship feasibility, concept, preliminary and contract design, design integration, stability analysis, structural analysis, hydrodynamic and sea keeping analysis and vessel arrangements.

  • Government vessel design, construction, and repair with primary focus on: Hullform and Performance, Weights and Stability, Area/Volume Requirements, Structures, Deck Systems, Boat Handling Systems, Stores/Cargo Handling Systems, Outfitting and Arrangements, Physical Model Test Planning Assessments, Integrated Topside Design.

  • Performing detailed design and analysis in order to evaluate planned engineering changes in support of major shipbuilding acquisition and repair projects.
