If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL. We are seeking a Micro/Nano Fabrication Engineer in APL's Research and Development Department. In this job you will help support cutting edge research and quick-turn prototyping to help solve critical challenges for U.S.

Department of Defense, National Security, and Space missions. As a Micro/Nanofab Engineer, you will work hands-on in a Class 1000 semiconductor clean room used to fabricate MEMS, microelectronics, and optical devices. You will be a valued member of our team, supporting a wide variety of micro and nanofabrication processes and contributing to a diverse and dynamic set of projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of basic microfabrication processes as well as an expertise in one area of microelectronics fabrication, including handling silicon wafers, photolithography, evaporation, sputtering, and plasma etching. Experience with safely handling chemicals, including acids, bases and solvents commonly used in microfabrication is a must. As a Micro/Nano Fabrication Engineer, you will... Operate semi-conductor fabrication equipment, including:

Photolithography Mask Aligners Plasma etch systems Electron beam evaporators Sputtering systems Wafer Dicer Parylene vapor deposition system Fiber optic laser Developing new processes, and reevaluating and maintaining current processes. Teaching and developing new Engineers. Looking for project and other opportunities for work in the cleanroom.

Being the lead Engineer on work and developing internal research and development efforts. Help guide capital equipment purchases. Support chemical inventory and chemical waste disposal within the cleanroom.

Identify and procure materials and supplies for cleanroom. Assist in maintenance of microfabrication equipment. Maintain a safe work environment - housekeeping, labeling and disposal of waste.

Maintain cleanliness and organization within cleanroom. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Have a Bachelor's Degree in Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline. Have 15+ years of experience in hands-on semiconductor, MEMS, microtechnology, and nanotechnology fabrication processes.

Comfortable working in a fully gowned/cleanroom environment. Open to handling hazardous acids, bases and solvents (with appropriate training, personal protective equipment, and safety protocols in place). Able to stand for extended periods as may be needed in operating equipment. Possess strong collaborative skills for our team environment, including self-motivation, good oral and written communication, a willingness to learn and grow, and ability to maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and vendors.

Have process development experience. Process and tool trouble shooting experience.

Have an expertise in an area of microfabrication, such as, lithography, wet etch, dry etch, thin film deposition etc.

Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Have a Master's Degree in Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, physics, or related discipline. Have 20+ years of experience in hands-on semiconductor, MEMS, or nanotechnology device fabrication processes. Have training/experience in safely handling flight/space hardware.

Have training/experience in safely handling electrostatic-sensitive semiconductor devices. Continual execution of process development. Have an expertise in multiple areas of microfabrication.

Developed new and novel processes. Quick turn and proto-type experience in microelectronics fabrication. Interposer and heterogeneous integration experience.
